The furniture was all period as well, with two easy chairs for relaxing.
There was the usual telly, that had all the satellite channels, and the hotel also provided 24-hour room service, so if you are a night owl like me, there was no problem in getting a late night drink or snack.

Advantages: Classy hotel. Good price. Disadvantages: Not a lot wrong here.

On the last occasion, my company booked me into the Roxburghe Hotel in Charlotte Square.
This is as fine an example of a Georgian Square as you’ll find anywhere in Britain, and the hotel itself had just finished a major refurbishment that made it even more elegant.

I’ve visited Edinburgh fairly frequently in the past few years both for business and pleasure. On the last occasion, my company booked me into the Roxburghe Hotel in Charlotte Square. You could hardly pick a better spot to go out and explore the delights of the Scottish capital, as it’s just around the corner from the cities main street, Princess Street, where most of the big department stores are located. One that sticks in my memory in particular is Jenners, a real high-class establishment, that reminded me a lot of Harrods in London. (so did their prices)
Anyway, back to the hotel itself. It’s fairly big, with over a 100 rooms, and I was amazed when they showed me to mine. It was actually more like a suite, with loads of room, and a gorgeous Georgian fireplace with a huge ornate mirror hanging over it. The furniture was all period as well, with two easy chairs for relaxing. There was the usual telly, that had all the satellite channels, and the hotel also provided 24-hour room service, so if you are a night owl like me, there was no problem in getting a late night drink or snack. If you just wanted tea or coffee, there was a kettle in the room, and a few biscuits thrown in for good measure. And a nice touch was that there was also an ironing board and iron, and a trouser press, that meant you didn’t have to worry about looking creased. It also had a spotless en-suite bathroom, with both shower and bath, and loads of little freebies like soap, shampoo and conditioner, moisturiser, and so on that us girls really appreciate.
The food was delicious and nutritious, and there were two restaurants to choose from, the Melrose and the Consort. I only ate in the Consort, so I can’t say what the other was like, but I’d say it’s a safe bet it would be OK. Try the Scottish kippers for your breakfast. If you like fish at all, you’ll adore these. The Consort also had what they described as a champagne bar just off it, that had an amazing display of Scotch whisky’s of every sort and description.
There was an ultra-modern gym and fitness centre as well, with all the latest equipment, and you could take a sauna, (lovely) visit the steamroom, or go to the solarium to top up your tan. It also had a small swimming pool that was OK, but could get fairly packed depending on the time of day you wanted to swim.
As I mentioned earlier, it’s really well located for exploring the city. If you get fed up shopping, then you can go for a wander in the Gardens on Princes Street. This is a lovely inner city park, and you’d find it hard to believe you were smack bang in the city centre. And there’s also the Scott Monument, built in memory of Sir Walter Scott. I went up to the top, and you get a fantastic view over the whole city.
I stayed for three nights, and the bill for Bed and Breakfast was about the £60 per night mark, which I thought was outstanding value for a hotel of this high standard. And it's only about 30 minutes from the airport by taxi, that should be about the £15 mark. I saw some special deals on offer for the off season, so if you fancy giving it a try, maybe you could even get it even cheaper than this. A definite thumbs up for the Roxburghe from this lady.
Advantages: Good quality rooms, nice and friendly Disadvantages: Nothing really - bit difficult to park maybe
...chance it, we went to the tourist office and they suggested the Roxburgh, right in the shadow of the Castle. The cost was a little on the high side....£140 for the room (2+1 infant) but we were told that it had just been refurbished so decided to take it. It's set in a lovely part of Endinburgh, a very short walk from the centre, the people there were very friendly (a quality we found throughout Edinburgh!), there is a big glass area in the centre ... ...They put us on the 5th floor, when we got to the room we were very impressed, it was a very large room...more of a suite, with a living room area and a Queen size bed on the side, there was a balcony with beautiful views across the town and the whole room felt like quality - very impressive. Downstairs you have access to a modern and well equipped leisure centre with a pool (bit on the cold side), steam room, dry sauna, aerobics room and a gym - ...

Advantages: Pleasant, comfortable, central Disadvantages: No hotel parking
...visited Edinburgh on business and the Roxburghe Hotel was chosen for
me in January because it is sited on Charlotte Square where I was conducting some consultancy work.
A really warm welcome with prompt reception service and excellent
decor.
My room was well furnished, very comfortable and well maintained, noise from other rooms is well muted.
Meals are well cooked and nicely presented, no trouble attracting
a waiter or waitress as they are ... ...am basically a carnivore).
The lounge service is very good with the waiting staff making reqular
tours enquiring after your needs or, if you are obviously busy, leaving you alone. The bar is small and aimed at spirits rather than
beers.
I stayed for 4 nights during the week and found the hotel relaxing
and refreshing.
The hotel was completing some enhancements to its conference facilities but I had no time to explore them.
The only downside ...

Advantages: Lovely rooms, helpful staff. Disadvantages: No parking, view wasn't the greatest!
...I stayed at the Roxburghe Hotel last year with my fiance for the weekend. It is part of the MacDonalds hotel chain. Was a bit tricky to find it on Charlotte square but the annoying part was trying to find a nearby car park as the hotel has no parking facilites.
The hotel itself was very nice indeed! The staff were very friendly and helpful on every occasion. Did feel a bit out of place in my jeans and old trainers but all the same we didn't get ... ...queen size comfortable bed. The only thing that wasn't too nice was our view, you opened the curtains and saw a ledge with some dead birds and rubbish on it. Nice!! Room service was excellent. Mini bar was stocked full but i don't touch these as they are always way overpriced.
The location was fantasic as well, lots of restaurants and pubs etc nearby as well as many shopping centres. My friend works for MacDonalds and got us the room for £30 a night ...
