Prinny's Pleasure Dome! Brighton's Best!

Advantages: Historical interest, vibrant eccentric decor, magnificent furnishings and furniture
Disadvantages: always leaves you wnting more

The Royal Pavilion sits comfortably in the heart of Brighton presiding over its surroundings like an elderly and eccentric uncle at a gathering in his honour. In unconventional attire, with a benign countenance and serene demeanour which belies it’s chequered past, it silently surveys the busy metropolis around. Brighton citizens and its many visitors mill around, some casting fond glances in its direction, others viewing the ‘inappropriate’ apparel ...
...the tales it can tell of its illustrious and notorious past combined with a respect for its longevity, having survived against all the odds.

*****HISTORY*****

Whatever one feels about Brighton’s premier landmark, nobody can deny that it and the person responsible for its construction are the two factors which have had the most impact on the development of modern Brighton. In the mid eighteenth century, Brighthelmstone ... more

PRINCE REGENT'S (SOMEWHAT LESS THAN) HUMBLE ABODE

Advantages: A Very Colourful Slice of History. Lavish Interior. Extraordinary Architecture. Superb NEW Audio Guide
Disadvantages: Poor Ventilation - Over Hot, especially in summer.

...already read this review on the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, I wanted to do this very brief update following our visit last weekend. As this vies for position as the prime tourist attraction in our city - with Brighton Pier - we tend to take our Polish visitors for a look around "Prinnies Palace". Being regular visitors, Mrs R and I, although always enjoying the experience, may tend to approach each visit with a sense of deja-vu. Not last Sunday ...
...the new Audio Guide sets, nothing particularly revolutionary about that you may say, but in fact, for us, they transformed, not to mention considerably prolonged, our visit. Instead of standing in each room, briefly referring to the guide book, we lingered to listen to all the fine detail and explaination on the guide. Not only are the contents, design and building of the palace explained, but also there are many anecdotes about the Prince Regent ...

Brighton The Royal Pavilion

Advantages: trippy and fun
Disadvantages: none

...any visit to Brighton is The Royal Pavilion. If you spend the day out in Brighton it's a fantastic town for walking and sight seeing and is easy to find hip things to do wherever you walk. Head on down to The Pavilion which is in the middle of town. This building was originally built by the prince regent and is a trip to set eyes upon. It looks like the taj-mahal, and is beautiful day or night to look at. Its one of the things that makes Brighton ...

Wonderful inside and outside..

Advantages: Right in the middle of town centre
Disadvantages: NO

...are in beautiful Brighton and the weather isn't great for sunbathing on pable beach (which is nothing special), you should definitely consider visiting the Royal Pavillion. It is worth to pay few ££ to get in, but you will not regret it. The decorations and interiors are amazing and i can asure you that you will not see anything like that anywere else. The painted wall decorations are exquistly detailed and the furniture might be strange but its ...

Not much fun 2 b had here

Advantages: easy to get to
Disadvantages: not very exciting attraction

...my school made me go. The tour of the place was rather boring and not very useful in understanding the history of the pavillion. The tour guides knew what they were talking about, but did not make it sound in any way interesting The actual pavillion was a beautiful building archtecturally, but it was rather filthy outside. Inside, the design was random-different in every room. It was not what i was expecting of a royal pavillion and was decorated ...

hotel I was very impressed by the Royal Albion. Bars and Restaurants in the hotel: Jenny's Restaurant - serves a large selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a nice view facing the pier and the beach. Pavilion Bar - again looks over the beach and serves a selection of drinks at a reasonable price. Sun Terrace - for sunnier days in the summer, has chairs and sun beds to sit on and get a nice tan. Attractions just a few minutes away: Hove cricket ground, home of Sussex CC The withdean stadium, home of Brighton FC Theatre Royal Sea-life centre Royal pavilion The 'Lanes' shopping Hove museum and art gallery Candy castle Brighton toy and model museum Brighton racecourse Brighton pier Brighton marina ...

A TRUE ASSET TO THE ENGLISH SEASIDE SCENE!

Advantages: Splendid by day, beautiful by night. Free Admission and deckchairs. Open all Year
Disadvantages: Can be crowded in summer

of such an advanced age that I still catch myself referring to this construction as "The Palace Pier" sometimes, forgetting that for the last decade and a half it has been renamed simply as "Brighton Pier". Due to my upbringing, my parents moved to this town in the mid 1950's from London, several years before I was born, in my childhood days, Brighton sea front, the two piers and even the Royal Pavilion were regarded strictly as the preserve of tourists. Of course these people that came to "our town" - tourists - were regarded as a lower order, under no circumstances to be mixed with. Good job my parents were not employed in the tourist industry then I guess! Fortunately, in adulthood, I have, I hope, taken a more enlightened view of the City in which I live, indeed Mrs R. and I regularly play the role of tourists in our own town. One may ...

A Cynic's Guide to Brighton

Advantages: See review . . . .
Disadvantages: See review

you dine at Kensington’s. Prices are low, yet quality is high. Regrettably, unless you're carrying a map and compass, your chances of locating Kensington’s are pretty low as it is tidily secluded in a concealed back street. I must admit though, my suspicion of how they could provide such good cheap food began to grow when I happened to glance at my fork which had “hospital property” scrawled in the handle. Another apparent must see on the agenda is the Royal Pavilion, the magnificent and epic edifice that shadows Brighton. Unfortunately this marvellous construction doesn’t seem to have much continuity with its surroundings. It is like having a leper give you a facial. It doesn’t really work. Unfortunately I cannot really comment on the interior as I did not venture inside as a result of an £8.50 charge ...
