The Royal York Hotel is superb. Located next to York train station it is easy to find, however you travelled just follow the signs for the station.! I have stayed at The Royal York twice in the past year and both times the service has been exactly what you would wish for, the reception staff are extremely friendly, efficient and knowledgable on the area. On both occasions i have stayed in a non smoking double room, the rooms have retained all the small period details yet feel modern and relaxing. The beds are kingsize or bigger! at least thats how they feel! all rooms are En-suite and most have a large bath, plenty big enough for two! The views from the rooms are spectacular, teh rooms at the rear of the hotel over look the wonderful gardens and to the front the city walls and beyond. The only draw back with the front rooms is a little road noise but this is a very minimal price to pay for the views. The hotel has its own health club (Spa, Sauna, Steam room and pool, also a limited gym area). The health club is always clean and the facilities serviceable. The hotel bar is a modern wine bar with a fantastic range of wine spirits and more. Comfortable and friendly this is an ideal place to start for a night in York, the prices are a little higher than other bars but for the relaxed atmosphere and comfortable surrounds its worth it. The hotel restaurant has a varied selection of excellent quality food at reasonable prices £25 per head for 3 course meal without wine. If your visit to York is for business or pleasure The Royal York is ideal, only a five minute walk to the city centre and with all transport links at the doorstep it makes a great base to explore a little further.
