I used to go to the Stamford quite frequently for a lunchtime pint and a game of darts. As I am now more centrally located in London, it isn't that handy to go to but is still worthy of a visit from time to time. The first impression I got when I visited this pub that it was traditional and quite far away from those ubiquitous chain pubs (there is actually one of them across the road, a Hogshead). This is surprising considering the area is bustling ... ...furnishings, darts board etc. The spacious upstairs, with room for large parties, is veering towards the more modern type of decor (sofas etc.) but still manages to retain its character.
The drinks are reasonably priced fo London, and accept credit cards for those expensive rounds of drinks, and there are cash machines two minutes away from the pub itself. The food is excellent and I highly reccomend the burgers.
