This 1991 Seattle supergroup brought together Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron of ... more
Soundgarden with the surviving members of Mother Love Bone (Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard) and Eddie Vedder, later of Pearl Jam. The experiment worked. Cornell shines, seeming more comfortable here on this tribute to his former roommate and deceased MLB lead singer Andrew Wood than with his own band. "Hunger Strike" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven" combine glam and grunge better than anything in Love Bone's catalogue, while "Wooden Jesus" is less didactic than anything in Pearl Jam's oeuvre. Most of the songs may be about loss and addiction but this is compelling music for dark days. --Charles R. Cross

Then one night, a few friends and myself hit the town and found ourselves in the queue for the Temple. What struck me at this point was how selective the bouncers were. They certainly were not letting any tom, dick, or harry in. Infact, I seen them turn away quite a few disappointed people.
But, fortunately, we got in. And I'm glad we did, the music was out of this world - Trevor Reilly was playing pumping hard house/hard trance, it was great.
And the bar runs special promotions offering ALL drinks at 1 quid up until 11pm.
There really is a great atmosphere in the place and another good point is the amount of security there is. You dont notice them until, eg you're blocking a stairway and there right there, so you can have peace of mind if any trouble starts, which looks highly unlikely in this environment. Besides - its right across from Pitt Street Police Headquarters!
The decor isnt up to much and a bit on the dark side tho.
The dress code is smart and you wont get in with trainers or if you're half drunk!
INTRODUCTION
Ever since reading Sir Walter Scott?s ?Ivanhoe? as a pre-teen, I have been fascinated by knights, especially the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, or the Knights Templar as they are more colloquially known. Their white mantle with the blood red cross emblazoned on it inspired childhood daydreams of glorious battles, war horses and many a damsel saved from distress. Of course, in those days, I didn?t really know much about their past. That, and the fascination that arose from it, was down to a Medieval History course at university taught by a very passionate professor, who opened my eyes to the rich and chequered history of one of the most important and amazing military organisations the world has ever known.
Then Dan Brown came along and popularised the Grail legend in ?The Da Vinci Code ...

Temple of Kom Ombo.
The second temple on our tour was at Kom Ombo previously known in ancient times as Nubt or city of gold. It was also known as Thebaid. It is situated on the East bank of the River Nile on a small close to the river. It looks quite stunning and it is only a two minute walk from standing hill where the boats dock on the quayside moorings.
Kom Ombo was a small garrison town which was not really suitable for a large settlement due to its position on the Nile being slightly raised and the ground was infertile due to its rocky domain. However it was an important
The temple was built from stone from local quarries and hauled by men to the site. There are two entrances at the front of the temple after which there is a long corridor that goes through the centre of the temple. It looks a little like a Pantheon with 15 ...
Advantages: A beautifully preserved temple. Disadvantages: Can get very hot and very crowded with tourists.
Temple of Edfu.
The great temple of Edfu is situated on the West bank of the Nile River in Egypt. It was built on top of an even more ancient temple between the years 237BC and 57 BC during the time of the Ptolemaic Dynasty and the reign of Cleopatra. Edfu was an ancient city of about 60,000 people and it was believed that it may have been a major site for people setting out on their journeys into the desserts. It is the best preserved temple in Eygpt built of sandstone and it is quite large. It is the second largest and best preserved temple in Egypt.
