The Time Hotel, New York

Advantages: Cheap and right on Times Square
Disadvantages: A bit on the shabby side

...Hotel Carter is often referred to as a hostel but I wouldn't go that far. Although it's not exactly New York luxury the room was en-suite and was clean and a good size, if a little dated (the carpet on the wall is somewhat different!). The Hotel didn't have a restaurant but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. If you are just after a cheap weekend in the Big Apple you can't get a much more central location than this Hotel which is just off Times Square and for the money compared to other NY hotels I think it is great value. Especially since you'll probably spend very little time in hotel room with the rest of New York to explore!... Read review

Advantages: Location - central to theatres, Times Square

...Milford Plaza is in an excellent location if you want to enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown New York. Situated right next to Times Square, it is ideal for the Broadway shows or just to enjoy the hustle and bustle of New York life. On first entering the hotel, it may seem like the Milford has seen better days, but for the price the accommodation is good, clean and ideal. Rooms could be bigger, but in New York space seems to be a premium - and you won't be spending a lot of time there. Compared to many hotels in New York, the Milford Plaza is very good. The staff are helpful and there is definately that New York feel about the place. Like anywhere in NY - or most of the States for that matter - the hotel is room only, so don't expect a slap up breakfast to go with it. ...The Helmsley Park Lane is ideally located - in particular for the first time New York tourist who wants to experience the city's charme. Opposite the hotel lies Central Park and to its right the infamous 5th Avenue with Tiffany's, FAO Schwarz and Saks no more than 5 minutes away. Close to the hotel is also a wealth of good restaurants -the Hard Rock Cafe and the Harley Davidson Cafe, as well as some more unique and fancy establishments on 57th Street. The outside decor of the hotel is disappointing compared to the other places on Central Park South. The hotel lacks the large and luxurious entrance that one may expect to be overwhelmed with by a hotel of its class. The standards rooms are superbly clean (with twice daily maid service). If you are looking for a true 5 star experience, however, you may be a little disappointed... Read review
