sensations of this year's Cannes Film Festival. A heart-stirring meditation on time and memory, Davies' first film in almost a decade marks a spectacular return to the spotlight for the director who won world-wide acclaim for his autobiographical classics Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) and The Long Day Closes (1992).Images of Liverpool past and present are magically combined with a wonderfully rich selection of music (ranging from Peggy Lee to Mahler, Handel to The Hollies), voices, radio clips, and the director's own voice-over narration. The result is a powerful evocation of the director's youth in post-war Britain and a reflection on how his home city - and the world at large - have changed over the years. Davies is regarded by many as Britain's greatest living director, and this haunting film has been widely hailed as a masterpiece.
Advantages: location - next to times square Disadvantages: bar prices and atmosphere
...this place. Having stayed at the Renaissance right on times square on my previous visit, we wanted somewhere similar location but not $500 a night.
Found the Time. We travelled in February when the room rate was $229 a night. Bargain with the exchange rate.

The room itself was comfy - great bed, big plasma tv, fridge/mini bar, air con, desk for business facilities. My only criticism on the room would be the lack of storage - no drawers, so we lived out of our suitcases.
All the rooms have bells which can be turned off by flicking on the do not disturb sign on the door - very quirky!

We had room service once which was only some chips - cost us $11 including the $5 charge for service. They werent worth that much!! The cleaners were thorough and friendly. They came to turn the beds down when we were out and left the next days weather report and chocolates on the pillow - nice touch for a 3* hotel. We found the reception staff pleasant but not overly friendly. We didnt use the restaurant but it was busy every night we were there. We did however use the bar which we found on a friday and saturday night becomes full of the most pretentious people in NYC. A lot of the areas were reserved - who for I have no idea, also there were areas where you could only sit if you brought a bottle - vodka $210!! needless to say we went back out somewhere else. Thats the only downpoint in any otherwise top stay. If you are looking for somewhere central and comfortable you cant go wrong with the Time.
Advantages: Clean, Brilliantly situated, not too expensive for NYC Disadvantages: Smallish rooms, could find better for the price? pesty cleaners, noisy airconditioner
The Time Hotel is situated on 49th st, just of Broadway and right near Times Square. It is a 4 star hotel which has a very modern feel to it. It includes a restaurant, but it was quite expensive, so I didn't eat there. The rooms are not the biggest (but then you don't get large rooms in new york!). It includes what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, Cable TV, Air conditioning, safe. We even got the New York Times Newspaper every morning (hanging ... ...hotel, of which were in the "lounge" all the time with their Laptop computers out. It is also not the cheapest of hotels you will find.
The staff were friendly, but the best to say about this hotel is it's location. All the Broadway shows were literally just around the corner, as was time square. Lets face it when you're in new york you don't really spend much time in your hotel room anyway. All that counts is a comfy bed (which it was). ...

Advantages: heavenly beds, bath, position and views Disadvantages: expensive so get a deal as they are out there if you look
and impressive, very modern etc, we stayed on the 40th floor and what a view and what a room - the rooms were large and we had 2 double beds with the children sharing, there was still loads of room around the room with the two beds, and they were soooooo cumfy, the room had all the other usual stuff such as tv, ipod thingie etc. lots of storage space in the entrance to the room and a lush bathroom with this odd bath that was like a big shower tray, it was only about 7 inches deep so having a deep bath was not an option but I still had a lovely bath, the shower was heavenly, lots of jets etc and lots of lovely nickynacks in the bathroom. The air con was great and it really was a chill out hotel from all the hustle and bustle of the newyork streets - I would have liked to have been able to open the windows more than the 3 inches that were permitted ...
Advantages: In the heart of the Theatre District Disadvantages: Breakfast is a waste of time
.
If you didn't want to eat in the hotel there were plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well as MacDonalds and other fast food places.
We also made use of the concierge service to a rrange a car to take us back to the airport (we were particularly concerned at the threat of a transit strike). The concierge clerk was helpful and ensured we would have a car. Priced slightly over what you could have got on the street but it gave us peace of mind that we would be picked up and also the set fare.
I thouroughly enjoyed my trip to Newyork and it was made even more specialby this above-avergae hotel. It was central enough to everything we wanted to do but off the busy, busy streets so you didn't feel in the hub of things all the time. ...
Advantages: Location, Comfortable and Luxurious rooms Disadvantages: Pricey
Location - The Westin Times Square hotel is conveniently situated at 43rd Street on 8th Avenue. It stands in the middle of the broadway district with approximately 40 theatres offering a variety of shows within walking distance. There are many shops, and entertainment facilities within metres of this hotel and it is only a few blocks walk to the Empire State Building and Macys. If you want to catch a cab back from Macys with all your shopping it only costs about $5 to get back though really isnt that far to walk. Ground Zero is a $12 taxi ride away and there is a large discount store located directly opposite ground zero where a few bargains are to be found. There is easy access to subways and is only a couple of blocks away from Penn Station and Grand Central station. It is an approximate taxi ride of about 45 minutes from JFK airport ...
