Again, travelling to High Wycombe, we needed somewhere reasonably priced to stay, when one of the girls in the office stumbled across the Victoria hotel in Abingdon Road, Oxford at £62/single room, per night. We duly booked our three rooms and waited with trepidation based on other experiences.

On our arrival, my colleagues were a little apprehensive without justification. The hotel is run by an Eastern European gentleman and his wife, who after advising us that we couldn't smoke in the rooms welcomed us like long lost friends.

THE ROOMS
We had three rooms, two doubles and a twin, all well equipped with colour TV, hairdryer, telephone, alarm clock, wardrobes, tea and coffee making facilities (Nescafe) desk area, a couple of lamps, and most importantly en-suite, with bath & shower, sink and toilet, shower gel and soap, and a number of towels. All the facilities were quite new and so clean you could have eaten your dinner out of them. An iron & ironing board is available on request, although be prepared to do this little exercise in public.

The hotel has 20 rooms, all en-suite, and one with a four poster bed.

THE BAR
This was small, and choice was limited to soft drinks(£1.20), spirits, chilled bottled beers (£2.30) and wine, accompanied by a bowl of crisps. There is a TV in here and the room has a conservatory design with drapes, I should imagine very nice during the summer (it was thundering at the time), and again, one of the cleanest venues I have ever had the pleasure to visit.

THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant stops serving at 9pm, and they like visitors to pre-book meals before arrival if you are likely to be close to this time. The set three course menu has an Eastern European touch and costs £15.50, and there is also al la Carte menu available at competitive prices.

BREAKFAST
This consisted of fresh fruit juice, a small selection of cereals, a full fry up (freshly cooked), or variations on a theme including mackeral, and lots of coffee/tea and toast, with accompaniments including, jam, marmalade and honey.

LOCATION
The hotel is situated on the Abingdon Road, close to the centre of Oxford (and probably a very nice walk in good weather), a taxi cost approximately £4.00 for three into the centre booked by the hotel owner.

There are also a few pubs serving food within close proximity to the hotel.

It is close to the Oxford Ring Road in an area known as Hinksey and about 15 minutes from the M40 during rush hour. The total trip to High Wycombe took about 40 minutes.

PARKING
There is approximately 20 places in the car-park, which is situated behind the hotel and accessed through a narrow opening between the hotel and the next-doors property.

COSTS AND PAYMENTS
Single rooms (B&B) start from £62.50
Double rooms (B&B) start from £68.50
Four poster bed - (B&B) only 1 - £95
The hotel also runs special deals at weekends from £137 per room for two nights (check with them)

The hotel takes all forms of credit card payments and obviously cash, and was also quite happy to open a company account for us.

SUMMARY
A very nice and welcome surprise, spotlessly clean with exceptionally friendly owners who treated us like long lost friends, would we go back again, I think I can confidently say yes to this, providing they have vacancies.

My partner and I stayed here last year, and found it to be a well run, spotlessly clean hotel. We would stay here again without a doubt. Good review. Gayna xx

This sounds really pleasant! I'm making a note of it in case I ever need (or more likely, want) to stay over instead of heading back to Surrey. Good op - has all I need to know and well written, too!
