A few weeks a go we spent a weekend in Blackpool and found The Waldorfe Hotel on the internet it looked very nice. Seventy eight pounds a night with breakfast for the two of us in a double en suite room was just about the right price that we were prepared to pay.
We arrived at tea time on the Friday night and found the Waldorfe on the right hand side of the front passed the Pleasure Beach, not a bad spot to be and we were going to be given a sea view so I was quite pleased on the first glimpse of it from the road.
Off street parking was provided at the back of the hotel so we decided to park up first then walk round to check in at reception. Parking in Blackpool is a nightmare so it was an added bonus the hotel having a car park.
The hotel had one of those old fashioned turning doors it would have impressed me slightly more if they had repaired it, what a battle to get it to turn I think it had seen better days, still not a major complaint.
The reception area was very nice with a lovely fronted sun terrace it did look the business and the furnishings were very tasteful. The receptionist was very friendly and had us booked in within minutes she gave us details of breakfast times and how to find our room on the second floor.
This hotel sports a lift but you had to hold on tight when it reaches your floor because it tends to stop so abruptly and your feet lifted off the carpet my hubby is quite tall so he had to watch his head on the ceiling it amused us every time that we used it.
Our room was quite small but adequate but there was a horrible smell in the bathroom like a drain smell I opened the window thinking that maybe it just needed airing but the wardrobe had the same horrible smell we couldn?t hang our clothes in it.
My husband decided to go down to reception and see if they could move us and they quite happily gave us the same room but on the third floor. This looked a lot nicer and it was bright and airy. After hanging our clothes up my husband decided to have a quick shower before we hit the delights of the Pleasure Beach.
He was in there for ages so I made a quick cuppa and relaxed watching television. He came out a bit tetchy by this time and said that there was only cold water coming out of the shower, no matter how he adjusted it and for the money that we were paying he was not happy.
I went down to reception and very nicely explained the situation to the manager who happened to be there and he came back up with me to see if we were imagining the problem I think. My husband was just starting to get a bit frothy around the mouth I know his mannerisms but I think that the manager picked up his mood as well.
He upgraded us to a nicer room free of charge for all the trouble that had been caused, it turned out to be a beauty with a lovely four poster bed so we had a comfortable stay after that.
I don?t think that I would stay at this hotel again, for the money it really lacked the finishing touches. Breakfast was very basic nothing to rave about and the table had a wobble but the waitress sorted it by wedging a napkin under one of the legs, actually we noticed that all the tables had a wobble, every time a party sat down she bounded along with a napkin in hand she seemed delighted that she was able to sort the problem out and was very loud with it too.
After checking out we parked up next to the pleasure beach so that we could have a quick walk round before setting off for home. I went to the loo before we got back in the car and there advertised on the back of the loo door was a very smart picture of the Waldorfe Hotel the photographer was extremely clever to get it looking that posh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cabaret Bar? We didn?t see one of them open; did we stay at the same place?????
