When I needed to find some cheap Hotel accommodation in Nottingham City Centre a couple of Weeks ago, the Internet was the logical place to start my search. I tried the usual chains including Travelodge, but since my stay was less than one week away I quickly found that I was struggling.
Eventually I stumbled upon the Welbeck Hotel. Location wise it seemed perfect, right in the centre of the City, and price wise it was well within my budget too, and so I confirmed my Online booking.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Well to be honest the first thing that impressed me was the location. It was less than five minutes walk from the Lace Market, and well within walking distance of all of the other Shops and Attractions.
The next thing that appealed to me was the design of the building itself. It is quite a large, modern looking, Hotel on five levels with a fancy porch above the entrance. En route to the Hotel I had passed some rather small, grotty looking Hotels and feared the worst, but I was pleased to say that the first impressions were very good.
INSIDE THE HOTEL
The main Reception is located immediately through the entrance as you would expect and there we were greeted by a very friendly young Girl at the Desk. The check in procedure was very simple and took only a minute or so, and then we were given the key to our Room on the third floor.
There are Stairs to all floors but feeling lazy in the heat of the day we decided to take the lift. I was rather pleased to discover that the key to the Room was a proper key rather than a plastic card, which seem to be commonplace in most Hotels these days. My preference for a key is based purely on the fact that I have had a few embarrassing drunken moments with those plastic Room cards when I can never seem to get them to work, but anyway I digress.
THE ROOM
The inside of the Room was very clean and modern with two twin Beds, plenty of Cabinets and Drawers (not really necessary for a single nights stay) and Tea and Coffee making facilities.
The Bathroom was also very plush with both a Bath and Shower and the whole Room had a very new feel about it, as if maybe the Hotel itself was pretty new or the Room had recently been refurbished.
As a final added bonus the view was pretty decent too, which overlooked the centre of Nottingham.
THE RESTURANT & BAR
The Restaurant is situated on the fifth floor and has a delightful terrace which overlooks the City. The Restaurant seats 65 people and offers a wide range of different Meals and services. These services include a Buffet Breakfast, and Lunch. It is also possible to enjoy Dinner by Candlelight here for between 6-35 people.
The Bar itself is also located where the Restaurant is. It is quite a small and informal Bar and serves all night, or at least it did whilst we there. We actually watched the Sun rise over the City from here, whilst attempting to sober up from a night on the town, which was quite an experience.
THE COST
We paid £75 for a Twin Room which included Breakfast although the standard Weekend rate for a Double/Twin Room is normally £82 for a Friday or Saturday, falling to £68 for a Sunday Night, but rising to £112 between Monday-Thursday. Since we stayed on a Saturday Night I guess that by booking direct Online we did actually manage to save a few quid.
THE LOCATION
The Hotel is located at the address below:
The Welbeck Hotel Talbot Street Nottingham NG1 5GS

OTHER INFORMATION
The Welbeck Hotel has a total of 96 Double/Twin Rooms but there are no Single Rooms available. No Smoking Rooms are available on request and during the Week it is fairly obvious that this place caters for Businessmen as I noticed a sign that said that extra Phone/Fax lines are available on request for Business use.
All Rooms are air conditioned and have an en-suite Bathroom. All Rooms also have Satellite TV/Video, a Phone/Fax line and a Trouser Press.
Car Parking facilities at available at no extra cost.
CONCLUSION
Overall I found my stay at the Welbeck Hotel to be very enjoyable and comfortable. The Beds was very comfortable and provided a good few hours sleep (after Sunrise), but the good sleep may have been induced by alcohol.
The check out time was at 10am which was a little early for one suffering from a hangover but this was only a minor inconvenience.
I would have no hesitation staying at this Hotel again and I found it to be reasonable value for money as I was sharing with a friend so it worked at £37.50 each per night.
