short boat ride from Piazza San Marco, the 216-room Westin Excelsior Lido Hotel is sumptuously decorated in Iberian-Mauresque style using ivory stucco and crystal chandeliers and features recently redecorated rooms. Westin Excelsior Venice Lido Hotel overlooks the beach and is a short, complimentary boat ride from St. Mark\'s Square and the historical and cultural center of Venice. The lobby and public areas are decorated in the Moorish style, with creamy white stucco, sparkling chandeliers, marble floors, fountains, and courtyard.
gardens, The Westin Excelsior, the magnificent white palace on the via Veneto, is one of the worlds great classic hotels. In the grand lounges and throughout the hotel, the exceptional decorative qualities of early nineteenth-century Empire styling are expressed in period antiques and architectural details. Inaugurated in January 1906, The Westin Excelsior has always been a synonym for refinement, luxury and comfort. Named to Condé Nast Traveler's 2002 Gold List, our hotel is a monument to turn-of-the-century style. Our spacious guest rooms boast rich custom fabrics, Imperial, Renaissance and Biedermeier style furnishings, as well as walls and ceilings hand-decorated by master artisans. Unique and unforgettable, the hotel is located on the most sparkling street of the capital, the famous Via Veneto, one of the most celebrated meeting places of Europe: it establishes a link between a sparkling past and a dynamic present, facing the street that was the cradle of the shining Dolce Vita and, thanks to the captivating style of Fellini, reached the collective imagination and became immortal.
Excelsior is ideal for rejuvenating seaside holidays. The hotel, with its Moorish architectural style, offers an enviable location from where to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Venice Lido and explore the architectural splendour of the "City of Doges". First opened in 1908, the Westin Excelsior has become one of the world's prime tourist venues. Visit and discover for yourself why it was named one of the "Top 25 Resorts in Europe" by Condé Nast Traveler in 2005.

...I stayed at The Westin, Dublin in February 2007 for a 3 night short break, and having never stayed in a five star hotel I was not disappointed….
Before flying to Dublin I had already arranged for me and my partner to have a ‘Dublin Pass’. This basically gives you transport from the airport into Dublin (we were dropped off very close to The Westin just outside Trinity College) and you also get free entry into the majority of Dublin’s attractions, I would thoroughly recommend this.
When we arrived at our stop the bus driver then directed everyone towards where they were staying, when we said ‘The Westin’ the bus driver looked impressed saying something along the lines of ‘best hotel around that is’….a taste of what was to come!
Check-in
So as we approached the hotel we were immediately impressed. A grand entrance with porters...

5 Star Hotel *****
Westin hotels are part of the larger Starwood hotel family, including brands such as Sheraton, Four Points, W Hotels, St Regis, and the recent acquisition of Le Meridien.
The Westin brand is always a blend of the modern, whilst allowing a certain amount of tradition, as is evident at The Westin in Dublin.
I have, for many years, been meaning to stay here on a jaunt to Dublin and finally did it in September 2005, which is when and where I experienced my first "black velvet" - Guinness and Champagne ... lovely jubbly as Derek Trotter would say!
Ideally located next to Trinity College in the centre of Dublin, the famous Grafton Street is a very short walk, as is the infamous Temple Bar...

...As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The Grand Hotel Excelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.
ARRIVAL/ LOCATION
If you book with Thompson as we did (though other tour operators go to the same location) flights go from Manchester Airport on a Friday morning, taking just over 2 and a half hours to get to Naples International Airport. From Naples the coastal resort of Amalfi is approximately...
