I am writing his review from my White Hart hotel room and in my opinion this is quite an above average hotel.
I arrived here with my family (Mum and Dad) yesterday. It was pretty easy to find and get here from Leeds where we spent the day out, just off the A15, but in the next 2 hours when we check out we will be taking the A46 to return home (Reading). The hotel provides their own parking just round the side of the hotel, with a small bay which cars strictly shouldn't stay in at all, but seems to be used by taxis to drop people off. Upon arrival we were greeted by very pleasant reception staff who knew a lot about the local area. Asking about local restaurants they informed us about the various Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, English Pubs and all about the restaurant they have which was very helpful. Even though a fair few must pass through, Lincoln doesn't feel touristy at all but I may simply be saying this as I am not visiting in-season and the city isn't exactly teeming with life at the moment.
Just outside reception is the typical leaflet shelf with various attractions and there seems to be a few things to do in Lincoln. Just outside my room is a fantastic view of the cathedral which I will be putting up a picture of when I get back. There's also the Lincoln Castle as well as an exhibition which will take you to look at the Magna Carta (only 4 in the UK). It's quite a historic town with predominantly older, but beautiful buildings which fit in very well. The cathedral is awe-inspiring, as well as the castle. It's a great place to take a few pictures but it looks tremendous at night. Within walking distance is a street of shops, but to reach it you must walk down a street called "Steep Hill" which as the name suggests is very very steep. Not so bad when you're trying to get to the shops, but if you've bought a few things and on your way back up it can be a bit of a pain.
The hotel itself is very clean and on the inside has a contemporary and traditional mixed feel about it. In the bar there are black leather chairs, which are comfortable but there you can also see some of the older parts. It blends well and has a nice atmosphere to it. The bar staff were courteous and helpful. They recently refurbished the first floor - Finished in October 2007 and it shows as it looks quite appealing.
For a double room it costs £95 per night under their Winter Escape special, but this offer runs out on the 31st of March so if you are planning to come you may need to hurry a booking. The rooms are quite nice - They have LCD televisions with freeview, trouser-press, 2 chairs, cabinets, coffee-making facilities, a drawer, en suite and a closet. I thought the bed was very comfortable and there is a spare duvet an pillow in the closet as well as an iron if you enjoy that on a holiday. There is also a modem wich is connected to a black ethernet box if you require internet access. It costs £8 a day but I found it easy to set up (plug in->Internet Browser->Click to confirm payment), is very quick and I have had no problems. The hotel room key is an actual key, although the room number toggle attached to it is too large to fit into a pocket which is a little annoying. I had a feeling that the hotel is more for adults than families, although I have seen a few families checking in. Due to the historical nature, the area is probably best suited to someone who is slightly older and shows an interest in British history, although there are a few shops nearby there are not a wide selection.
The bathroom is perfectly clean as well as the room, which is well lit with a large window, but the carpet looked to me to not be the cleanest. The carpet in the hallways and staircase also looked like it was in need of a clean. There are 2 sets of towels in my single room and complimentary soap and shampoo. The wallpaper and curtains also look a little dated but I was told that they will be working on refurbishing rooms throughout the year.
I did not go to the hotel's restaurant for dinner so I cannot comment on the quality of food or atmosphere. Instead we went to an Italian restaurant called "Gino's" - Turn right from the door of the hotel, walk up the street until you reach the first left and it's the restaurant on the far-left. It was fantastic there - for a Wednesday night in February it was packed, people kept pouring in at 10 o'clock! The food was reasonably priced, very big portions but could have been half the size as it tasted superb. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful.
We did have breakfast in the restaurant/bistrot (about 5 minutes ago) and it is once again quite contemporary. They don't offer a buffet which I am used to in hotels, but you can order from a menu which offers a fry up (vegetarian option given), cereals, porridge, hot drinks, fruit juices, fruit salad and toast. The fry ups were priced quite well, but I thought £2.50 for toast and jam, £3.50 for cereal and £4.50 for porridge was rather steeply priced. I recommend the hot chocolate highly. The restaurant itself is brightly lit with a lot of natural light. It looked to me like it was more of a breakfast or lunch room than for dinner though.
I thought the White Hart hotel in Lincoln is a very good hotel with good prices and a friendly staff to go with it. If you are planning on having dinner, then you would probably be best having a wander through the streets. The location is beautiful with the hotel supplying parking and within walking distance to some fascinating historical landmarks. 4*/5
Additional Information: - It is a non-smoking hotel, so smokers will have to leave the building if they wish to smoke. - Numerous services can be arranged via reception; taxis, care hire, baby cots, additional towels or duvets. - There is a cash point in the Bailgate area, about 300 yards on the left from the hotel. - Check out time is 11am, check in time is from 2pm. - Children up to the age of 15 stay free of charge when sharing with 2 adults. - Breakfast is served form 7am-11am - They offer a dry cleaning and laundry service - Easy access to emergency exits with fire doors - Flowers can be ordered, which is a nice addition if you are coming here with your partner.

...treating ourselves by staying in the infamous White Hart Hotel.
All the time that we used to live in Lincoln this hotel was well known for it's so-called excellence and you had to be 'somebody' to be able to afford to stay there so when it came to our anniversary we thought we would really splash out and have a luxurious weekend in this hotel.
Needless to say we were disappointed. I think in terms of Lincoln this hotel is something special but ... ...always joke, is behind in the times and so maybe this hotel does seem very posh and well to do to good old Lincoln folk like we used to be but it really isn't anything special and we really can't understand why it is so very much over-hyped.
The hotel is very old, it's steeped in history and still has the original White Hart statue outside. When we went on the ghost walk once it featured in many of the tales and there have been lots of royal guests ...

The hotel is steeped in history and you can tell just by looking at the building of it's age and the stories it could tell if it could. Lincoln is a great place to visit and it's main tourist area is the Steep Hill area of the city. It is called Steep Hill for a reason- it is very steep! There are lots of little tea rooms, gift shops and an award winning restaurant or two in this location.

The White Hart was built in the 14th century as a coaching inn and since then has grown and become a very well known hotel with customers coming back year after year.
What are the rooms like?
Rooms vary but all are well equipped, however, several that I have been in look as though they could dow ith a bit of a referbishment as they are a little dated and the bathrooms are small. All rooms have been ...

We booked a double room and managed to get a special offer of £140 for dinner, bed and breakfast and it looked like a good deal.

The reception area was very dark, old red carpets, dark beams, lots of big furniture. It made me feel pretty claustraphobic. The staff were friendly thuogh and we checked into our room.
The room was large enough with extra seating and a okay sized batrhoom. IT was clean which was the main thing! The view was of a building though so not great and there was a damp smell hanging in the room which wasn't ...

...in Lincoln, I have only the one experience of the White Hart. My cricket club had it's annual presentation dinner there last year. Location
Set in the beautiful, historic uphill Bailgate area in the city centre, The White Hart is in the shadow of the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral. This means it is in the upmarket area of the city, meaning that the prices are higher than if it were elsewhere in the city.
Prices
It has to be said that the prices ... ...meal and nothing else. At the bar before I bought a round of drinks (two pints of lager and a large glass of white) and it came to a shade over £10. This, to me is quite expensive.
Food
The food was not the highest quality - indeed for the price we paid it was distinctly below average. The starter was just the standard soup and with no spectacular bread rolls or other garnishings it could easily have just been tinned soup! The main course was delightfully ...

The annual christmas market which attracts 100 thousand odd visitors is also held around this area. The stalls are mainly of the greasy chip and hot dog variety and what you'd find in Blackpool Im afraid but the atmosphere is congenial.
The shopping in the main town centre is definitely on the up with a decent sized Debenhams and Binns along with the usual High St names.
There are a few hotels including The WhiteHart ,a Holiday Inn and a Forte Posthouse. They all do special weekend deals.
Overall Lincoln is still a lovely, relatively unspoilt city with enough to keep you amused for a weekend break. ...
