I went to this hotel as from what it looked like on teh website it looked extra special. It boasted about it's history and the location and it sounded ideal although quite pricey!
We booked a double room and managed to get a special offer of £140 for dinner, bed and breakfast and it looked like a good deal.
When we arrived our first impressions were that it was indeed old! It is painted white and you can tell just by looking at it that the building is hundreds of years old. It is set on Steep Hill which is the really nice touristy section of LIncoln. It is just a stone's throw from the castle and cathedral so great for looking around. There are some lovely gift shops around it too which makes it a great place to stay, right in the 'hart' of it all.
The reception area was very dark, old red carpets, dark beams, lots of big furniture. It made me feel pretty claustraphobic.
The staff were friendly thuogh and we checked into our room.
The room was large enough with extra seating and a okay sized batrhoom. IT was clean which was the main thing! The view was of a building though so not great and there was a damp smell hanging in the room which wasn't very nice at all!
The restaurant served lovely food. The menu choice was small but what we did have was absoloutely lovely we couldn't fault it at all! The breakfast was buffet style as well as hot food served fresh.
The decor of the hotel looked a little dated. I would suggest they update it a bit so it gives it some fresh air as it looks quite drab now.
The hotel has special evenings like murder mysteries and special events for christmas and new year which look good and interesting but pricey again!
I think if i returned to Lincoln I would stay somewhere else mainly because I didn't think that this hotel offered anything special despite charging so much. Perhaps I wouldjust chose to come here for an evening meal and stay in a guest house i nstead.
I did enjoy my trip to lincoln though so would definitely recommend this area it's a lovely place to go.
The hotel has it's own carpark which is very useful, from what I have seen theo thers in the area have limited parking so that may be a stress for you if you are driving and want to park nearby.
