As a young Brightonian through and through, I am about to give you the lowdown on why The Zap is one of the finest clubbing establishments both in Brighton, and in the south of England.
Location: The Zap club is superbly located along the lower promenade on Brighton Beach between the Honey club, and the Beach club and overlooks the popular Palace Pier. The Zap is only a short walk away from many of the most trendy and most popular bars in the city such as the Prodigal, the Sumo, and the Squid, as well as being close to many of the town centre bus stops so accessability does not exist as a problem. Furthermore, there are a number of taxi ranks within walking distance of the club making the journey home extremely quick and easy, as well as the fact that the taxi service in the city is extremely efficient, and I have rarely been made to wait for more than five minutes for a cab. Finally on location, it is important to note that the Zap is located extremely close to a number of fine fast food establishments such as Buddy's, eleviating the common problem of late night munchies.
Club nights: Although the weekend nights at the Zap are the most popular, often attracting superstar DJ's, personally I believe that the Zap comes into its own on the two student nights during the week, Club Tropicana on Mondays, and Chopper Choons on Wednesdays. Club Tropicana, as the name inevitably suggests, is one of Brighton's most popular 80's nights, and attracts a large number of young clubbers, most notably from Brighton's two universities, The University of Brighton, and The University of Sussex. The music is funky, and there are a fair amount of drinks promotions allowing for a relatively cheap, yet exciting night. For example, last time I checked, you could get a bottle of wild brew for £1.10! Furthermore it is only a couple of pounds to get in, so I would definately recommend Club Tropicana as the obvious choice for a monday nights clubbing session in Brighton. Chopper Choons is arguably the clubs finest achievement, combining funky seventies grooves with modern rap and r 'n' b sounds to create a truly unique clubbing experience. You can pick up a bottle of fosters for £1.50 too - bargain! Both Club Tropicana and Chopper choons are £2 entry before 11.30, however the entrance fee increases significantly after 11.30 so get there early. And a further hint from me - if you want to go to chopper choons for free then first head to the squid bar where you can pick up a free entry flyer when you purchase any drink.
When I am living with my parents in Brighton, I make a regular point of going to Chopper Choons on wednesday as it is the perfect place to meet up with old mates from sixth form college, as well as being the perfect place to meet members of the opposite sex! In my experience however, clubbers at the zap are more interested in having a good time than pulling so I advise against going to the Zap for this sole purpose - try the Event or Creation instead! The zap is a fairly small club - I think its capacity is somewhere in the region of 600. However I believe that this simply adds to the atmosphere of the venue, although it can get cramped on busy nights.
Safety: Obviously, safety exists as a primary concern to many clubbers nowadays, as you often hear of violence at nightclubs and bars in the media. Fear not however, as in my opinion, Brighton exists as one of the safest and most enjoyable destinations for a night out, and there is rarely any evidence of "trouble" or violence in the town centre. The Zap itself is an extremely safe club with an abundance of security staff, allowing clubbers to enjoy themseleves without having to worry about their personal safety. However one word of caution is that it is always advisable to travel home in a group after clubbing even in Brighton, as you do hear of the occasional unprovoked attack, even in a safe place like Brighton.
Advantages: Guaranteed Fab Night Out Disadvantages: Exenpense
I'm a clubber of many years with the last 8 years being in Brighton. Although the Zap is my all time favorite that I'll always have a soft spot for, I have to at least write a review for the Honey Club. It well deserves one...
The Honey club is an all out Hard House/Trance club that has an incredible experience going on. The Zap used to be the main real clubbers place to go in Brighton with the Honey following a close 2nd. This was mainly due to the consistency of the clubbers themselves. One fact that has always remained however is that the honey club experience has never really changed, in that you are guaranteed that on a Saturday night the place will be absolutely rocking!! This has been the case in the many years that i've been in Brighton and i don't see it dying out yet. Infact only this month of June 03 I'm seeing ...

to get to the bar, bless him. We stayed there for about two hours and then headed off to a nightclub. We ended up going to The Zap Club ? danced to techno and garage until the early hours of the morning. A smashing night out.
Bottom line:

it show films outside of the mainstream.
I'm not a regular club goer anymore so my knowledge of clubs in Brighton is now limited. All styles are catered for on different nights.
Amongst the best known are
The Zap Club, The Volks Room, The Concorde, The Funky Buddha Lounge, The Escape Club and The Honey Club all of which are on the net.
For something a bit different try the Hanbury Ballroom, once a month on Saturday night for the 'Stick It On' session where the club goers become the DJ's see www.stickiton.co.uk
