I went on holiday in Greece with my friend last year to different place then i usually go.We went to Halkidiki. We booked our holidays through Polish agency as its much cheaper but not much convenient when you book last minute.
I mean i had to go to Poland to go to Greece it was a long trip but i survived. We landed in Kavala and transfer to the hotel took about 2.45min.By the end of the evening i was really tired.Theoxenia is 4* hotel and is very nice.Rooms are in good size at least our was and was clean. We were on half board basis so we had breakfast and supper all buffet style.
I must say the food is very good. Breakfast was always the same, eggs, jam, bread, ham, cereal,Greek yogurt and other things but what else can you expect?
Suppers were different everyday of 1 week but we were staying at the hotel for 2 weeks and some dishes were repeated in week two but were delicious anyway. The hotel is not very high up on the hills like few others next to Theoxenia and we didnt have nice views.Pool was not small with shallow part for kids to splash in.
We didnt use pool at all, beach is so nice that we didnt have to.
Cleaner was in every day cleaning bathroom and make up beds etc, every 2 days towels were changed.
We were walking to Ouranoupolis town (its more like a village )everyday to buy fruits and water 'cos its cheaper than in hotel shop.We were having lunch almost every day at PYRGOS tavern. Its first restaurant right at the harbor. They do the best Calamari ever! there are busses to town and back to Thessaloniki every 2hrs and have not seen scooters for hire either.
In the evening its nice to go to the only bar in town AMMOS and have a drink sit and relax on nice sofas.
There is no disco in town but hotels have own kind of parties, Greek nights and Beach Parties Hotel next door Akti host party on Wednesdays, or you can go to Aristoteles Hotel on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There is disco in a basement, without air conditioning so if you dont smoke better not to go.
If i had to go to Ouranoupolis again i would stay in Akti Hotel. It looks nicer has a pool bar with music and sofas and probably nice views. Also in our hotel there was loads of families with kids it didn't bother me much but if you planning nice romantic holidays or you are a party animal its not a place to go.
But if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing time then theats the place to go.
If you go there take a trip to Mont Athos, really worth 10 or 15Euro.
