Thistle Bloomsbury, London

Advantages: Location, location, cheap deals oh and did I mention location
Disadvantages: Everything else

...The Bloomsbury Park is a Thistle Associate Hotel and so I expected a high standard having stayed in one of the groups hotels before. The hotel is just off Russell Square with easy Tube access via Holburn or Russell Square stations. The room I had the mispleasure of staying in was on the 2nd floor toward the rear of the hotel, dark and dingy was the best attribute the room had to offer as this hid the multitude of poor maintainence and bad decor. To give you an idea i moved the TV forward to access the only spare socket in the room, the socket wasn't fully screwed to the wall and a large fist sized hole was also lurking out of site! No major problem aslong as you have a spare pair of rubber gloves. Talking with another guest at the end of my stay, he had a similar room but was moved to a room which had been recently renovated. ...fruits including oranges , grapefruits, melon, pineapple, mango, apple/pear compote, berry compote, yoghurt, bacon, sausages, baked beans, black pudding, hash browns, mushrooms, eggs scrambled or fried and tomatoes. All very very nice and hot drinks served at the table and topped up for you. Fruit juices were self serve. The restaurant was spacious, modern and comfortable. There was car parking below at I believe about £17 per day which we didn't use as we arrived by train. There was a Fitness first Gym that was free 8-12 noon outside the front of the hotel and down stairs or lift. Room service 24 hours. Hotel mostly air- conditioned (our room was but we had the window open instead). We really enjoyed our stay at this well positioned hotel which was clean, friendly and welcoming. Advantages: Close to airport and shuttle bus runs frequently
Disadvantages: Bad service, dated rooms

..., and the 'Heathrow Hoppa' runs quite frequently and drops off at every terminal. You are quite close the runways at this hotel and outside it can get quite noisy, although you can't really hear the planes when inside your room. The staff at this hotel on whole were polite but seemed disinterested and it seemed to be an ordeal when we complained about the standard of the room. I've read on other review sites that this hotel has recently undergone updating work and the rooms are much better. Perhaps this is now the case, but I don't think I'll be staying at a Thistle hotel again.... Read review
