Advantages: Good locations, good offers for weekend breaks, pleasant rooms Disadvantages: Can be a bit samey from one hotel to the next. Staff unsure of how to handle complaints
...Thistle is a company that seem to be trying to improve themselves. I've used their hotels for weekend breaks a few times now and on the whole I'm pleased with my experience. They are easy to book - a central reservations telephone line and easy to check into.
I've had an executive room a few times via an upgrade which was given for the same price as a standard. These rooms were airconditioned with big comfy beds. The bath rooms are pleasant and you get all the usual free cosmetic treats and a fluffy white bath robe.
I've stayed in London at the CharingCross hotel and had no complaints at all. A very professionally run hotel.
The only problems I've encountered have been at the Bristol Thistle. While the building looks lovely and inviting on a hot weekend it can be stifling in the reception as there is no air conditioning. We...

Advantages: One of the world's great cosmopolitan centers Disadvantages: So much city . . . so little time
...segments of Londinium's Roman Wall to the Tower of London to the Houses of Parliament. For those seeking art and culture, there are galleries and museums galore--not to mention one of the world's most famous and thriving theater districts. For those who love parks, there are big parks, small parks, parks with fountains and ponds and the art of the footpath with its turnings--not to mention parks with black swans and benches for people watching. For those interested in the conviviality of the locals, there are pubs and restaurants to suit every taste and pocketbook. And for those on a quest for royalty, there are palaces, pageantry, and (if one is very patient and very lucky) the fleeting glimpse of a royal personage.
For Himself and Yours Truly, there are bits and bobs of all these attractions, plus bookshops on CharingCross Road...

Advantages: Good location Disadvantages: Paper thin walls
...-conditioning but it was quite noisy and I also woke up in the early hours feeling a bit chilly. Turning the air-con off soon sorted out this minor complaint. We had a comfortable night's undisturbed sleep with no noise from other rooms, slamming doors or traffic outside.
On waking we discovered an envelope pushed under the door for checkout but we thought we had already paid. On enquiry this turned out to have been pre-authorisation and so the card had to be swiped again for payment.
Again we were able to leave our bags locked away until we returned to Kings Cross to catch our train back north.
I felt that the price we paid was a fair price for this room but of course London is always that bit pricier. I would not have paid for this room at the rack rate - for 214.00 Pounds I would expect some thing pretty special.
The Thistle Islington is clean...

I stayed at this hotel for a period of 6 weeks last summer as I was on a course with work down south.
The hotel is situated in a small village setback from the road in a secluded position. It is about a five minute drive into Stevenage which makes it more

I booked this room via active hotels for £40, room only. For only one night- and we checked in 20:00, it was acceptable. Bathroom was newly fitted, clean and roomy. Bed and beddings were very nice. But other than that, the hotel has a dated and dirty... more
