Brighton Rocks in The Lanes

Advantages: great location, friendly & knowledgable
Disadvantages: car parking & breakfast!!

We choose the Thistle due to cost and availability really - many of the hotels on the travel website we use were fully booked or looked in need of paint and repair. This was advertised as being close to The Lanes and numerous restaurants as well as being sea front based.

LOCATION

The Thistle is a glass fronted, modern looking hotel, situated approx 200 yards from Brighton Pier, directly on the seafront.
...
...old Victorian style, so the Thistle stood out somewhat!!!

Directly behind this hotel is The Lanes and various restaurants - so it really is close to all amenities as advertised.

ARRIVAL

Finding the hotel was easy, parking was not!!!

The car park the hotel uses is not signposted well - in fact, it has signs all over stating this is not for use by hotel guests!!

However, that ... more

Ideally located Hotel

Advantages: Great Location
Disadvantages: A Bit expensive

I stayed at this hotel last weekend 19/20 November 2006 for one night. I paid GBP 160 but also had to pay GBP 10 extra for VAT. This included breakfast and was for a sea view double room. The hotel is situated on the sea front and is about 15 - 20 mins walk from the train station (which can be a bit annoying especially if you are carrying luggage). But it is a straight road down and then turn left at the end. You cant miss the hotel as it stands ...
...fronted and is a lot bigger than some of the smaller hotels you may pass. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Brighton Pier (come out of the hotel and turn left - you cant miss it) Once we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a flight of stairs to the reception area(about 10) and the lift did not seem like it was for for hotel guests, so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. The staff were very friendly and checking in took less than ...

Thistle review

Advantages: Central location
Disadvantages: Pricey

Stayed here for one night in the summer 2006. We booked at very short notice via the internet as it was the cheapest deal we could find. It cost us £150 We parked in the lanes car park which seemed a very safe car park to leave our car. There was a queue to get in though and we were a bit worried we might not get a space. I suggest getting there early or getting there by train. It is only about 15 mins walk from the station. Head down towards the ...
...the pavement, you can't miss its impressive glass frontage. Great central location and the hotel looks very modern and stylish from the outside. Reception is a little hard to find when you get there as it is over to one side of a big bar and lounge area. Staff were very friendly and our check in had no problems. The room was clean and a good size. The rooms look into the centre of the hotel around the main lounge which was quite quirky. We did not ...

hours. The coach takes two hours. Both the coach and the train terminate in Central Brighton and are very frequent to and from the city. For train times: www.railtrack.co.uk or 08457 484950 For coach times: www.gobycoach.com There is accomodation to suit every budget in Brighton. If you're the last of the big spenders check out The Grand (5 star), The Hilton Brighton Metropole or The Thistle Hotel (both 4 star). All located on Brighton seafront. If you're working to more of a budget or travelling with a family you may like to try something less extravagant. There are many 3 star hotels along the seafront offering accomodation from £30 per person per night, normally including full English breakfast and VAT. Prices can vary wildly depending on the seaaon, availability and whether or not there is a conference ...

Review of Brighton in general

Brightons Wicked!!

Advantages: The sea, the atmosphere, the pier.
Disadvantages: Apparentley the sea is full of excrement.

most probably couldn't feel your feet. There is an ace Graffitti park past the new pier at the far end next to the Marina. It is a legal park where anyone can go and paint, it is refreshing to see because you see groups of kids putting a lot of effort into their work and can work at their own pace, Montana crews frequently visit the park to paint, some of the pieces are outstanding, and worth seeing. The best part of Brighton is the seafront and all the litlle allyways filled with cafe's and independant original shops that have plenty of character. There are a few pasta cafe's near the Thistle hotel that are excellently priced costing £2.50 for a pizza or pasta dish, and it is good food! Brighton has a lot of students and is known to be a good place to study art. ...
