I booked this hotel for myself and my partner to stay in after a night out in Manchester back in February. I booked it fairly last minute on the internet and as it was for a Saturday night I didn't expect a bargain but this room cost over £100. However as it was the only double room I could find I booked it, needless to stay I was more than annoyed when I arrived to find we would be staying in a twin room.
The hotel is in an ideal location, there is a taxi rank right outside, a tram stop within minutes and Piccadilly station just a 5 minute walk. However we found we were able to walk to everywhere we wanted to go, the shops are a couple of minutes away and there are several bars along Portland Street. You are also within a 10 minute walk of areas such as the Gay village, Deansgate Locks and the Printworks.
The hotel itself is fairly dated, the decor is traditional and it could do with a lick of paint. We took the lift to our room as it was on the third floor, however it had broken down and was out of order by the time we checked out the following day.
The room we stayed in was a standard room and as soon as we walked in we were disappointed, not just because of the twin beds but the whole room screamed 'Travel Lodge' and I could have got a twin room in a Travel Lodge for a lot cheaper that evening. The bathroom was dated and there were chipped tiles, scuffed paint work and a feeble excuse for a shower.
I was impressed with the breakfast the following morning, a full English was just what the doctor ordered after a heavy night out. There were all the traditional delicacies and you were welcome to go up as many times as you liked. However this could not make up for the sub standard accomodation.

That seems way over priced for a night in Manchester - I guess if you book a Travel Lodge at least you know kind of what to expect and it saves you quite a bit too!
