The ideal location, situated on Portland street at the end nearest to Piccadilly station but only a brisk 5-7 minute walk from Oxford Street station. This hotel overlooks Piccadilly gardens and the newly aquired ice rink , looking fantastic at moment lit up with fairy lights. Straight facing the chorlton street bus station and metrolink system
The Hotel
My visit to this hotel was unfortunatley business not pleasure, however I would definatley return here for pleasure. The reception area is on the right hand side as you walk in, with the restaurant to the left. When checking it we were greeted by very polite staff who informed us of all the facilities available, the dining times and the security procedures on an evening. The hotel was pre-booked and paid for by work but it was £89.00 for the room per night for bed and breakfast. Evening meal was available at the public restaurant . There are two fair sized lifts available to take you up the 8 floors the hotel boasts, I was located on the fourth floor so not to far to lug my suitcase. I was in a twin room with views of the piccadilly gardens which was a reasonable size, nevertheless spending too long in here could get on your nerves!. The room had the basic appliances which you come to expect these days kettle, trouser press, iron tv with remote , tastefully decorated and clean bedding( no complaints so far!!!). Bathroom pure white and very clean, recently installed by the look of things, a bath with overhead shower, beday and toilet, the sink was built into the sideboard area . The hotel does have a swimming pool and gym but as I only stayed for teh night on business i didnt have much chance to try it out
The Food
On arrival it was 5pm so my first meal was to be dinner( all paid for by work -thank god!), the restaurant situated on the ground floor is open to the public from 5pm-10.30pm, with wheelchair access , large dining tables with plenty of room to relax. All the staff were wearing matching oufits which I do like as it makes them look clean and smart. After being shown to our tables we were offered the wine list which I gladly made my selection. Then shown the menu, I optedfor Bury black pudding on mustard mash with pan fried caramalised onions and garlic- it was fantastic , black pudding is not to everyones taste but if its your thing it was fantastic, a bit pricey at £8.75 but beautiful. I am definatley a meat person so for the main course I chose the fillet steak which they sreve with dauphinoise potatoes but I am a typical northener and wanted good old fashioned chips which they were only to happy to do for me, along with tomato , mushrooms and onions, price £18.95. I had eaten plenty so had no room for any dessert, no complaints at all over the meal, slightly over priced but you are in the heart of Manchester so its to be expected really. Breakfast the following day was the standard full english wth the choice of cereals yoghuts meats and cheeses, breakfast is self service which I prefer as you can dine at your own speed without feeling rushed along, staff do bring out the toast, which i suppose is so nobody burns themselves.
Overall
I cannot make a complaint overall, the room was comfortable for the price especially in the location it is in ,staff were only to happy to accomodate you in whatever you needed, I will definatley return if the chance comes along but living only an hour from Manchester i dont think I will have much need to, I recommend this hotel to all.
