I didn't have high expectations from a Thistle but I happen to know that the restaurant at this hotel is very good so I had some hope that the rooms might equal this.

Victorian residence, set in spacious gardens and located two miles from the center of St Albans. The 111 guestrooms have modern decor in warm shades of orange and yellow, with dark wood furniture. The hot water pipes that ran along one wall made the room so hot that it was impossible to sleep ... ...This alongside the fact that the bed felt about as comfortable as an ironing board meant that I bit the bullet and asked to be moved - not something I would normally do but needs must.
The second room we were given was supposed to be a superior room - I think this meant we had a table and chairs as well as a desk. As much as this room was a decent temperature and the bed was a little better the room had a smell of rotton fish that ... more

The hot water pipes that ran along one wall made the room so hot that it was impossible to sleep in - almost impossible to breathe in to be honest! This alongside the fact that the bed felt about as comfortable as an ironing board meant that I bit the bullet and asked to be moved - not something I would normally do but needs must.

Thanks to a desperate need to sleep by this point we roughed it and vowed never to return again.
Perhaps I was just unlucky and I hope this is the case and to give the staff the due the deserve they were wonderfully helpful and apologetic and as I said I know that the restaurant is a great place for dinner.
If you're just looking for somewhere to stop off on a long journey you cant do much better than a hotel that sits at the conference of the M1 and the M25 but that's all it really is - a motorway hotel so don't have too high hopes!!

Quick review of Thistle St. Albans Noke Hotel, Saint Albans
I stayed here for 1 night with my friends. The Deluxe room was standard in comparison too other hotels. Our view was a tree!! Because we were on DBB rate we were given a menu with only 3 choices of starters, mains and desserts. I feel this was not a good choice.
The final insult was to have no hot water the next morning. The receptionist did not apologise and went on to moan about how she got wet going home. At least the rain was warmer than my shower!
Great leisure centre and beds comfortable but 4* it is not!! ...
