I have just flown to and from Austria with Thomas Cook and I have to admit I previously had no idea that they actually ran an airline themselves! A friend of mine booked the flights through the Barclaycard travel service and we got a good discount on our whole skiing holiday as Barclaycard holders. The whole holiday was provided by Thomas Cook along with Neilson Holidays and everything thankfully ran very smoothly.
I flew from Gatwick to Innsbruck and and as a nervous flier I was somewhat anxious, especially not having heard of Thomas Cook flying aeroplanes.
However, as soon as I saw the plane, my fears were allayed and friendly staff were on standby on the plane to show you to your seat.
Unfortunately, this seat had been pre-allocated. This was great as I was travelling in a group of 7, which meant that we were all seated together. However, for me it is a priority that I have an aisle seat towards the back of the plane. I requested this at check in and was told that it was not possible to change seats as they had already been allocated. I expect if I had made a fuss on the plane, then somebody would have swapped and as I was with 6 friends, then we did have an aisle seat in our allocation, however I expect airlines to be accommodating at every stage.
The plane was a standard size and in my opinion there was more leg room than a typical budget airline ( row 11 looks good for extra leg room as by the front exit... ). The seats themselves were a tasteful dark blue leather and very comfortable.
The staff were all immaculately dressed and very helpful and polite.
I had a breakfast meal on both outward and return journeys and this consisted of a hot breakfast - scrambled egg, sausage, baked beans and hash brown, a bread roll with butter and marmalade, a blueberry muffin (divine!) and orange juice. The staff also came round with a choice of tea and coffee and even top ups.
The trays that the food is on, are made from a bizarre material which allows materials to stick to it, yet at the same time not feeling sticky to touch by the human hand. This is obviously very useful on a plane!
Overall I enjoyed the experience of flying with Thomas Cook airlines and I would be happy to fly with them again.
Thomas Cook airways were very safety conscious and would not allow passengers to read or talk whilst the safety videos were on which I found quite impressive. Also, they checked that every passenger was wearing a seatbelt very carefully and made me move my blanket to check mine, which again, I was impressed by.
