I turned to Thomas Cook because I was fed up with being treated by an idiot by the tour operators themselves. I have travelled with Thomas Cook before and was pleasantly surprised, especially as they made me a Privilege Member on return from holiday. I let this lapse and had forgotten all about it. Anyway, I telephoned my local Thomas Cook, having decided that I would book with them if they could get even close to the quote I'd been given by the patronising "We won't be beaten, so we don't have to be polite" chaps. They got to £150 above my previous quote, so I was reluctant but I explained that I would much rather book with them, if they could get a bit closer to the quote. Without telling them what I had been qouted, they called me back offering me a 5% discount which brought their quote to within £25 of the tour operator's quote. Two days later, I realised from the brochure that I was entitled to £100 off the holiday due to the dates I was travelling. The helpful and friendly agent I was speakling to me immediately took this and got me my extra discount. They also immediately re-instated my Privilege Member status, which means I pay less commision on currency! What a surprisingly pleasing service. I would definitely go back!
