With little cost differences between high street travel agents these day, it can be a nightmare finding a travel agent that offers something special. Look no further than Thomas Cook. As the founders of the package holiday, Thomas Cook have the edge when it comes to choosing those weeks in the sun, or on the sea, or in the jungle or in Paris or…. The list goes on. In my usual style I will dissect and inspect each section of Thomas Cook, starting with…
~LOCATION~ Thomas Cook has stores nationwide, in nearly every town – my local town (Taunton), has two, both of a similar nature. They are usually located with the town centre, and are easily accessible.
~PHSICAL LAYOUT OF SHOPS~ Thomas Cook shops are, in general, quite large, and easily accessible for wheelchair. On one side of the store is the sea of brochures, with a selection of companies, including JMC, Thomson, Sky tours and First Choice among others. The other side of the shop contains the cheerful travel consultants, perched behind their screens, eagerly awaiting your custom.
The store looks ‘nice’, with all the late deals posted in the window for easy browsing.
~THE STAFF~ The staffs in Thomas Cook, are both well dressed and well spoken, and defiantly know about the different destinations on offer. Their bright uniforms and cheery manner are reminiscent of the forthcoming holiday reps at the resort – all part of the show I suppose. Also, the staff don’t hassle you, by saying ‘Can I help you’ whilst you are perusing the brochures, this is good for people like me who like to browse at leisure, but for those less confident it might be a bad thing.
~RANGE OF SERVICES AND DESTINATIONS~ Like most travel agents, TC offer their own Bureau de Change, and usually give commission free currency if you have booked your holiday with them. They also, in my branch anyway, have an ‘exclusive lounge’, where those privileged enough to go on a long-haul holiday can book in comfort.
In recent years, TC have stepped up the quality of the late deal holidays, giving you brochure details of the accommodation, and don’t treat you any less differently than someone book a four week holiday in Australia. In fact, they can even search through their huge database for a late deal that matches your exact requirements which is surprising good. I did this last year, and plan to repeat it this year, I’ll update soon.
Thomas Cook seem to cater for almost any type of holiday, from your typical Mallorca beach holiday, to walking to Malaysia – and they give you comprehensive information on your destination too.
~PRICES~ Many people say that TC is ‘expensive’, but what they mean is that in comparison to other operators, they charge a slightly higher rate in order to provide the good quality services. When you go into a TC shop, you immediately think that this company of both professional and knowledgeable about it’s trade, which justifies the prices.
~OVERALL~ To be blunt I would not consider booking anywhere else, and the only thing that would drive me too would be if another company was offering really good deals, like 80% off your holiday! Although their prices are a bit higher than others, this is justified (see above).
