Thomson Destiny -Tropical Transatlantic Dec 2008 We booked this cruise in October 2007 and obtained an all inclusive deal as our last cruise cost us an extra £600 pound, mainly in drinks costs! We had previously cruised with Thompson last year on the Celebration and think that I actually prefer the layout of the smaller sister ship for a number of reasons, which I will probably touch on later in the review. We decided that we wanted a summer holiday abroad this year and picked up a Thomson Brochure. Thomson are a well known holiday operator and have been operating for as long as I can remember. Since they opened a Lunn Poly near us we have been picking up their brochures instead of the usual JMC ones. All inclusive cruising on the high seas, a tour of the Canary Islands, and a chance to experience the Topaz before she retires from Thomson’s after years of loyal service, how could I resist. I used to imagine cruises were for older, elitist couples, but friends and family persuaded me otherwise. Thomsons, the no longer British tour operator who is still UK market leader - confused? The whole company has been taken over lock stock and barrel by the major German tour operator TUI, and are in the process of revamping their brochures and repainting their airlines a nice pale shade of turquoise blue. Every package holiday I have booked has been with Thomsons. Their brochures generally replicate the end destination, and their prices are, without a doubt, the most competitive in the industry. Package holidays aren’t normally my thing, but when all you want is a week somewhere hot, with everything arranged for you, they usually don’t do that badly. I’ve travelled with numerous companies, usually to Spanishy places, but never before with Thomson. This wasn’t why we chose them though, nope, it was their choice of departure airports. There are very, very few companies who fly from Blackpool, and even fewer who fly from Blackpool and who can be booked through work, thus offering me a discount.
