Thomson Destiny - Tropical Transatlantic

Advantages: Price, All inclusive Option, transatlantic crossing
Disadvantages: lower level engine noise, tired cabins - could do with a refit

Thomson Destiny -Tropical Transatlantic Dec 2008

We booked this cruise in October 2007 and obtained an all inclusive deal as our last cruise cost us an extra £600 pound, mainly in drinks costs! We had previously cruised with Thompson last year on the Celebration and think that I actually prefer the layout of the smaller sister ship for a number of reasons, which I will probably touch on later in the review.

...but on arrival at Lisbon I could only describe organised chaos. In all 5 flights had arrived from the UK with cruise passengers and all landed within a very short space of time and due to a malfunction of the baggage handling system, all the luggage arrived for all the planes at the same time, which had a knock on effect on the rest of the usual embarkation process which left a lot of angry complaining passengers. It took us longer to get out of ... more

THOMSON... Super for Families

Advantages: Lots of Choice, lots to do
Disadvantages: Not many free child places.

...year and picked up a Thomson Brochure. Thomson are a well known holiday operator and have been operating for as long as I can remember. Since they opened a Lunn Poly near us we have been picking up their brochures instead of the usual JMC ones. Thomson offer a variety of holidays such as Superfamily, Gold, Platinum, summer sun, a la carte, small and friendly, faraway shores, Greece, turkey, cruise, alfresco, Florida, freestyle, weddings in paradise, ...

We decided after a lot of thought and looking up reviews that the Golden Avenida Park in Salou was the one we wanted to visit. You can go to various places such as Greece, Cyrpus, Mainland spain and Mallorca. Thomson usually have you tickets to you about 2 weeks before you are due to leave for your holiday. Your tickets come in a nice wee handy booklet ...

Thomsons All Inclusive Cruise On The Topaz

Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op

...Arrival and Transfers ~ The Thomson rep was easy to spot at arrivals and we were directed to a comfortable and newish looking coach. The transfer took about 1 hour to the port. Once there a member of the ship came on board and clear instructions were given for embarkation. A large tent type area was set up on the port and here we collected an envelope that contained various information including stickers bearing our cabin numbers. We placed these ...
...cruise staff that would deliver them to our room. We were told this could take up to two hours but ours arrived within 30 minutes. We were greeted and welcomed onto the ship and once onboard went through the process of handing over our passports and collecting room keys etc. This was fast and smooth with the minimum of fuss. From there a member of staff showed us to our room and the cruise began. The Room ~ Small but clean. The Topaz was built in ...

Advantages: Competitively priced and generally honest brochures
Disadvantages: Beware last minute hitches on early bookins

...House (both owned by the Thomson group) and also Co-op Travelcare, we are able to manage our holiday finances accordingly. CAUTION Although you can benefit from early discounts, beware when booking early. On two of my last three Thomason holidays, they have written to me shortly before departure (10 weeks and 5 days respectively) advising me of circumstances that have made travel virtually impossible, i.e. in both cases major building work, which ...
...of the holiday. On both occasions they point blank refused to offer another holiday rated at the prices available at the time we originally booked. In 2000, we had to cancel completely, and secured a last minute deal with JMC to Protaras, which was fabulous. By taking the route of advising you of any last minute changes or problems with your holiday, Thomsons exonerate themselves from having to pay any financial compensation. It is possible that ...

...thus offering me a discount. Thomson fitted the bill though, and so Thomson it had to be. **** In the UK **** I booked through Thomas Cook on a Pricebreaker holiday. This basically means that they’ll allocate you your accommodation on arrival, but it will definitely come from a given choice of 3 from their winter or summer sun brochure. I wasn’t fussed where we ended up, and since this way was £200 cheaper, it was an easy decision to ...

You can book over the phone or in almost all travel agents, but not as yet online at their website. The brochure we booked from was accurate enough – nothing they said was false, but there were quite a few things they hadn’t included. **** In the Resort **** Our flight was on time, and there were ...

Thomson Gold Holiday - Atlantica Imperial, Kolymbia, Rhodes

Advantages: Fab hotel, Fab location in quiet, safe harbour
Disadvantages: Not 5 star, and not 'all inclusive'

Anyone deciding to venture out to Rhodes has a lovely trip ahead of them - our hotel of choice, the Atlantica Imperial Hotel, was fantastic and the location was stunning. However, despite Thomson advertising their 'Gold' holidays as a 5 star 'all inclusive' option, my partner and I felt that our trip was, on many occasions, not at all '5 star' and more importantly, distinctly not 'all inclusive'. The holiday cost us over £2,000 for the week and yet despite treating ourselves to a luxury 'all inclusive' break, we found ourselves hounded with 'little extras' added on to our final bill: 1. Sunbeds we found finding a sunbed around the pool area impossible (unless you are prepared to get up at 6am every morning to reserve one), so spent most of our time on the beach - where sunbeds are not free! 6 euros per day for two sunbeds ...

Thomson Holidays lose Small Claims Cort Case.

Advantages: N/A
Disadvantages: N/A

The holiday was booked with Portland Direct, which is owned by Thomson Holidays. In February 1999 we visited the one bedroomed apartments at Dunas Club, Corralejo, Fuerteventura. They came with the following facilities : microwave, toaster, kettle & fridge, telephone, TV, hairdryer, iron & ironing board. For our sixth visit to Fuerteventura we booked a week in a one bedroomed apartment at Dunas Club. On arrival at Fuerteventura Airport on 17th March 2000, we were told by Judith A Johnson that as Dunas Club was overbooked we would be staying in a one bedroomed apartment at Sol Las Olas, some 3km away from where we wanted to be. When we protested that Sol Las Olas did not have the facilities we had booked, Judie told us that was not a problem as they would be supplied. It was all lies!!! We ended up in a Studio, pic at http ...

thomson gold hotel

Advantages: caboret
Disadvantages: location

I used to be a holiday rep for thomson in tenefire north. The el tope was the thomson gold hotel just for couples. People pay an awful lot to stay in these places. Food was fantastic that was offered. The pool area was amazing. The best thing for me was the entertain shows that were put on for the guests by the decidated entertainers and also the reps. The el-tope biggest draw back is situated right on top of a hill and to get to the sea is a big walk down a 100 steps no good for less able. Staff are very friendly and efficient. I would recommend people staying in the el tope. Tenerife north is so much better than the south far spanish but slightly less sunny. ...
