My first cruise on the Topaz was July 1998 The holiday began by flying to Orlando Florida on a Tuesday. Arriving in Orlando late afternoon. I chose not to have a car but transfers which were very good. We were transfered from Sanford airport to our hotel on International Drive where we were to stay until Saturday morning before our transfer to Port Canaveral, for our seven day fully inclusive cruise on the Topaz. The first four days in Orlando were great, with visits to all the Disney parks, the hotel provided a shuttle bus service which was excellant and justified our decision not to take the hire car. Our transfer to the Topaz was very easy and our first impressions of the ship was that it seemed a little old, we had paid extra for an outside cabin with seaview, but the porthole was to high to see out of and the cabin was rather basic and not too brightly decorated. Our exploration of the ship was quite good and has the next seven days came and went, we had a great time, the ships staff and crew were fabulous,and very helpful, indeed at the end of the cruise we were sad to leave the friends we had made aboard. The ports of call included Bahamas (Nassua) Key West Cozumal(Mexico) and Port Lucaya (Bahamas) we swam with Dolphins and had a fantastic time The free drinks and more than enough food made the holiday great. AT the end of the cruise we returned for a further three days in Orlando Visiting Sea World and Universal Studios. Since then I have been on two more Topaz cruises, they are without doubt, excelent value although not five star they are well worth the experience.
