In December last year my wife and I were booked on a Thomson flight only as a return journey from Malaga, Spain, to Doncaster\ Sheffield airport. We arrived at Malaga airport at least 2 hours before departure time, only to find that the flight had been cancelled. No explanation was given and there was no one there to advise. We were left with no alternative but to pay for a later flight via Easyjet. This went to Nottingham (East Midlands) Airport, and we had to pay extra for a rearranged pickup. We paid e273 for the flight and £40 for the rearranged pickup. Before departure from Malaga we had tried unsuccessfully to contact Thomson - both by telephone and web search - to confirm the return flight times. Other passengers had experienced the same problems. We later learned that some abandoned passengers had been booked and paid for flights with Easyjet. We have claimed our flight and transport costs from Thomson but they will only offer £85 which represents the original cost of the return journey. They claim that this is all that they have to pay under EU Regulation EC261 I have read these Regulations and I think that they are wrong. I intend to take the matter further, even if it means suing in the Small Claims Court. Everytime Thomson write to me they always end their letterby stating 'we hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you onboard in the future' SOME HOPE!!!
