Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. We were all in high spirits and enjoying our food and refreshments, I dropped the bombshell that I wanted to see the house, they did try to dissuade me as they were now getting slightly tired and wanted to do a little retail ...

Tribute to a Golf

Advantages: Great car, good fuel economy, well built - and extremely safe
Disadvantages: No real huge disadvantages

I've owned my Golf TDI S for almost 5 years now, and I've been really pleased with it. Unfortunately my insurance company have purchased the car back from me following a 7 vehicle pile up (not my fault!). However, I thought I'd put the experience to good use and tell you not only about how great the car is as a drive, but also show how well it can stand up to a battering. The car looks good. There's no getting away from it: when VW bring out a new shape of the Golf I invariably don't like it, but given a few weeks to get used to it, and it really grows on you. On the outside the car comes in a range of colours (I'd opted for a nice metallic blue on mine), with the mirrors and part of the bumper finished in the same colour. There are no front foglights as standard, but there are fog lights fitted to the rear. There's also ...

Contemporary Arts in Bristol

Advantages: Good variety of events, many of which are free
Disadvantages: Hard to say

My second visit to Bristol was on a decidedly damp Saturday afternoon, so we were looking for places to spend some time inside. Having walked down the steep slope of Park Street and not being in any hurry to go back up, I suggested that the Arnolfini arts centre might not be too much further to walk. Situated on Bristol's Harbourside, it is easily reached by walking along the quayside from The Centre. From the south you can get there by crossing the swing bridge on Prince Street. Admission is free, so it is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the arts. The Arnolfini has no permanent collection of artworks, so exhibitions change from time to time. There is currently (August 2008) a display described as an 'interactive shopping experience' entitled 'Far West'. Although not exactly my cup of tea, there was a degree ...
