As a couple we love expensive food. We also like cheaper menu's with large portions!
We took the kids here as it's local and wanted to give the kids a treat. With families and couples dining in there it was a pleasant atmosphere this time and, despite it being Saturday early evening and they advertise events we arrived just before the loud music started and the crowds starting arriving so it was a quiet and nice environment for children.
The food was pretty cheap and the hubby opted for the Mega Mixed Grill from the main menu. This was only £8.99 plus £1.50 to change the ranch steak to a rump which was medium rare just as he requested. He had 2 chicken breasts, a gammon steak, 2 sausages, a fried egg, pineapple ring, onion rings as well as peas, a cooked tomato, chips.
We didn't have a starter this time though last time we chose from the 'Pick and Mix' sharers. We had indian combo which had pakora, mini onion bhaji, mini samosa as well as small helpings of mint and mango sauces.
I chose the Mega madras, which promised to be hot and spicy. A usual portion is just £6.49 but we paid £8.99 to super size it and it was so tasty. The heat was a lovely surprise as it's rare for pub food to deliver on its promise to be spicy.... as well as the curry, there were 2 poppadoms, rice, naan bread along with 2 sauces (mango and mint). I'm not finished yet, there were also mini onion bhajis, pakoras and samosa's! There was loads of food but I had to keep going until I finished.
I've had the indian option from the burger menu before too - 2 chicken breasts served in a naan with mango sauce and chips, along with onion bhaji's and pakoras with a little bit of salad. I didn't enjoy this as much as the actual curry, but advertised for £7.79 (we didn't pay that, read on..) it was filling and great value for money. They also have a deal on burgers where you can get a standard burger with chips and a drink for just £7.29 - when we ordered the Indian 'Barras burger' they let us have the deal which was fantastic.
The children both ordered the same - pizza, chips and beans and they couldn't finish as the portions were large (and all those carbs!) but the pizza's looked nice, and no scrimping on tomato and cheese. Each meal was only £2.99 plus £0.99 for ice cream dessert.
Deals on burgers, daily, £7.29 for burger, chips and a drink of choice. £12 from a smaller menu, includes 2 adult meals. Sunday lunch from just £6 Many other daily deals such as free upgrades to a 'Mega Meal' on a Monday or curry and a drink on Thursday from £7.49.
Pleasant, quiet and fine for children at 5pm on a Saturday. Pub environment and comfortable seating areas. Very open layout but cosy areas to choose to sit.
Toilets are very clean and well styled. No childrens play area. Large TV with news/sport. Choice of seating areas - table & seats, high leather benches and a larger dining area.
It's next to a busy road but a large carpark and outdoor area if you want to sit outside. Handy when you're at Homebase or Toys R Us and just want a quick, inexpensive bite to eat.
Value for Money
Excellent for cheap food. Obviously most of the food is pre-cooked and frozen ready to re-heat, but if you like to dine on a budget then it's a great place to go.
All in all we paid just over £30 for 2 large adult meals, 2 childrens meal and dessert, a side of onion rings, 4 alcoholic drinks and 2 childrens drinks.
The staff here have been lovely on each visit and the food, despite being told 30 minutes to wait, was served in 20 minutes which again is great.
In summary, a convenient location and inexpensive meals that deliver in size and taste.
