I stayed at Vacances de Tipi en France in July / August 2009 after finding the site in the Cool Camping guide for France, quite rightly it was in their top 5 list! Basically, the site provides 5 spacious tipis set in private woodlands with indoor provision for cooking / eating etc. The site is based in the largely uncommercial Creuse region of France, between the villages of Ladapeyre and Chatelus Malvaleix, the nearest town being Gueret, around 10 miles away. I drove here from Calais as it was the quickest and least expensive ferry crossing, but be aware this was a 7 hour drive!
The thing that impressed me most was how much thought had been put into providing just enough facilities to ensure that this was camping without the hassle, whilst remaining true to the natural surroundings and the fact that you really are living in the woods. The tipis are equipped with basic but comfortable furniture, including a futon for sleeping on.
This is certainly somewhere to go for a peaceful break, it's situated out of town (you can see the milky way due to lack of light polution!) and although you'll hear the occasional car passing, it's a really quiet site. However, the surrounding towns provided plenty of attractions, provided you can tear yourselves away from the tipi! There's a lovely community feel to this site, which is helped by the fact that there are only 5 tipis, so everyone gets to know one another (unless you choose to stay in the woods for the whole week!), particularly when everyone gets together for the occasional evening meal prepared by the owners, Sheila and Nigel (You really must try Shelia's jam at the included breakfast too!) Without a doubt I will be visiting again in the future, I can't recommend this site highly enough.
