If I were to offer you 100 pounds if you could guess what I saw Kate Moss eating the other day, what would you guess? A lettuce leaf? A piece of celery? A greek salad? Nope … all wrong! The answer is a cheese fondue followed by a chocolate fondue! Yes, I couldn’t believe it, but I saw ... Read review

Tucked away in a basement on London’s Westbourne Grove is Tiroler Hut. Due to its central location in Notting Hill, the restaurant attracts its fair share of celebs. Apart from Kate Moss, we’ve seen Travis, Hugh Grant, Damon Albern and the German Ambassador (erm, Ferrero Roche anyone?!?). But this is no Ivy or Met Bar. Apart from fondues, Tiroler Hut do a variety of starters (bratwurst, fried goats cheese, smoked ham with melon, king prawns in garlic butter to name a few). They also offer a choice of meat, fish, steaks for main courses. As it is an Austrian restaurant, you can imagine their vegetarian options are pretty minimal but they do offer an excellent vegetarian strudel, soups, salads and fried mushrooms in breadcrumbs. >> FOOD << Most visits, we order the same things. We begin with a Kasefondue (Cheese Fondue) for two - £17. The waitress brings the fondue set, lights the gas and places the bubbling pot of cheese. You get huge quantities of home-baked bread, broken into chunks. Then … start dipping! It is a long-standing fondue tradition in our family that anyone who is foolish enough to drop their bread into the fondue has to do a dare!
After eating this fondue, you should feel well and truly stuffed. So, time for a break, a few drinks and singing with Joseph. When the food starts settling down inside your stomach, it’s time for us to order dessert: Chocolate Fondue for two - £8.50. Like the cheese fondue, this is a bubbling pot of melted chocolate! Oh heaven must be like this! You get assorted biscuits, fresh fruit and marshmallows to dip in the chocolate. If you finish this too, congratulations! You truly are a piglet!

>> BEVERAGES << This one always makes me laugh, because it reminds me of when the waitress asked what kind of beer my husband wanted and he said “an Austrian beer”. She responds, “All our beers are Austrian. What kind would you like?” Not knowing any Austrian beers, he responds, “Austrian please”. Duh!!! Being an Austrian restaurant there is an amazing range of beers, especially wheat beers. They come in the big 1-litre steins of lager, so you can pretend you’re in the Alps! As well as beers, there is a good selection of wines and soft drinks.
>> ENTERTAINMENT << You’ll really have to be a sour puss to leave the Tiroler Hut without a smile on your face. The owner, Joseph, provides live entertainment. He begins with a few Austrian and Hungarian songs on his keyboard, before breaking out the accordion, yodelling and ringing the cowbells!
>> PRICE << Dinner comes to approximately £20 per person (including alcohol).
