A Good Start
Review of Mandarin Oriental Tokyo by Cat199

Advantages: Service, rooms, standards
Disadvantages: It is not a cheap place to stay!

...have never stayed in a Mandarin Oriental Hotel before, but it is a chain I have been hoping to try out for a long time. As we had already decided that Japan was going to be a holiday of indulgence, Mandarin Oriental Tokyo seemed a very good place to try the brand. Booking When it comes to vacations, I am something of a forward planner. But when I tried to book the hotel, a mere ten months in advance, I found that the on-line booking system ...
...costs, well this is the Mandarin Oriental and was always going to be an extravagance. We did not opt for the cheapest room but we were a long way from the most expensive as well, paying the equivalent of about £420 a night. To summarise I really enjoyed my stay here and whilst I would hesitate to call a £420pn hotel room value for money, I don't resent paying it and think I got just what I wanted and expected. ... East meets West
Review of Stellato Restaurant by kollarosie

Advantages: delicious cuisine and friendly staff
Disadvantages: not very intimate

Stellato is on the top floor of a beautiful Moorish looking building in the Minato-ku district of Tokyo (an area allegedly haunted by many ghosts!). You get to the restaurant via a dimly lit lift and then you are escorted by the incredibly attentive staff into the restaurant - or if you'd prefer an aperitif (which we did off course!), into the bar area. The restaurant itself is non-smoking so smokers can take breaks in the bar area between courses ...
...very personal touch to the Stellato is that each table has a card addressed to the diners (welcoming them to the restaurant), which has been signed by all the staff working that night. It was a Monday when we visited the restaurant so was quieter than most nights. This meant we had the undivided attention of Stellato's Canadian born Maitre 'D and Manager, Aarin Teich - who has been with the restaurant since it opened in 2002. I'd also describe Aarin ...
