Too tough to die

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: sww review

.../> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tombstone is most famous as the town where the gunfight at the o.k. Corral took place more than a century ago. Wyatt Earp, his brothers and friends took on the outlaws Clanton and his 2 supporters. The gunfight left several of the men dead and ensured that Tombstone found its way into the history books and onto many tourists lists of must see places!

Tombstone started life as a boomtown ...
...homeland. The town was named Tombstone by the silver prospector Ed Schieffelin, who was told that if he ventured into this area to look for silver then the only stone he would find would be his own Tombstone! However he survived and the town that he named prospered. Tombstone grew to a population of several thousand people. In 1887 an underground river flooded all the silver mines forcing their closure. The mines were never reopened and the population ... more

Tombstone 2003

Advantages: Site of the Old West's most notorious incident, plenty of good ghostlore
Disadvantages: It's a tourist trap

...housing them. In 2003, Tombstone residents prefer to take strangers' tourist dollars over their lives. Despite the many mining towns that constantly cropped up throughout the Western United States during the late 19th century, Tombstone stands out above all the others because of one notorious incident that would outshine any other in Old West folklore: the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The Earps and Doc Holiday fought the McLaurys and Clantons in ...
...was piqued after seeing the Tombstone episode of The History Channel's HAUNTED HISTORY series. When I committed myself to a trip to Arizona, I decided to add a day to explore some old mining towns. As my boyfriend, Russell, and I drove up Highway 80 (a.k.a. Fremont Street through this small town), following the traffic signs to Tombstone's notorious Allen Street, we parked in the dirt lot across the street from the Bird Cage Theatre. My search for ...

Gunfight at the OK Coral

Advantages: A genuine Cowboy Day
Disadvantages: A little remote

The late 1800's was a difficult time in the American West , outlaws prevailed , gunfights the norm. We've all heard of the Gunfight at the OK Coral but dare we inagine it was real - I can assure you it was. I've seen it - well I've seen a reconstruction of it , fought out daily in Tombestone Arizona (where it actually happened). About 60 miles south east of Tucson you arive in a classic cowboy town , a few short streets of wooden buildings - tacky ...
...actually no. Just outside of the town is Boothill Cemetary where all the famour named Outlaws are buried. Western Shops abound but not as expected at sky high prices - ripping the customers off. The prices are actually better than in the main towns and shopping centres so you can pick up at very reasonable prices the likes of leather belts , cowboy hats , leather boots etc. If you can spare a day here , you will not be disappointed. ...
