I first visited Toronto in 1998 on my honeymoon and fell in love with the city. We stayed at the Bond Place Hotel on Dundas which we found to be clean, friendly and central. It is two minutes walk from the Eaton Centre - a shopper's paradise. There you can browse in Eaton's department store, shop till you drop in chain stores, craft shops and fancy goods stalls. The food hall is excellent for variety and value with foods from all over the world at excellent prices - Brits will be surprised at how cheap it is to eat in Toronto.
One of our favourite eateries was The Mandarin Chinese Buffet Restaurant on Younge and Eglinton's Canada Square Complex (take the underground to Eglinton and it is just outside the station). This is the most amazing buffet I have ever been to with a huge selection of chinese and world foods. Choose from soups, salads, meats and vegetable and the most delicious chinese concoctions. The sweets are so irresistable that I would recommend you don't eat all day before going or you'll kick yourself.
We also loved the Peel Pub for the best breaksfast in town. This spacious sports bar/eating house is found on King St West. I heartily recommend the waffles with maple syrup or the pancakes. The portions are very generous and will keep you going till dinner.
With all of that and Tim Horton's, the home of the world's greatest bagels and coffee you will have a terrific holiday. Just remember to take the opportunity to walk it off or go cycling on Toronto Island and you won't have to worry about putting on any excess pounds!
