Land of Cicadas, Nitmiluk National Park, N.T. Australia

Advantages: Beatiful scenery, unspoilt and outback
Disadvantages: Very hot, very wet at certain times of the year, not easily accesible without transport

THE KATHERINE GORGE AND NITMILUK NATIONAL PARK KATHERINE: Katherine is a mining town in the Northern Territory of Australia there is not alot in the actual town but the reason for coming here is to experience the surrounding area and the Nitmiluk National Park. FRUIT BATS: We were in to the coach for 7.30 and off to Katherine Gorge for our gorge boat ride. The area where you board the boat is set up for picnics with BBQs and tables with chairs and there were nice clean toilets areas too which we made good use of. There was no reception area to speak of or any gift shop so you just had to wait around out in the open. We were entertained by the flying foxes hanging in the trees; every now and then one would fly across to another tree then fold himself up and hang from a branch again. They are really quite large bats but they d not seem ...

Advantages: Not as many tourists as other parks, good facilities in the Hotel.
Disadvantages: No big cats, the Masai have "removed" them !

weeks. I thought it was going to be a punishing routine, flying from Heathrow business class, staying in one of Nairobi's few five star hotels, doing an exhibition for three days, then going to Mombassa, but I felt that I was up to the challenge. On the flight, he sprung the extra surprise : he had planned a long weekend in the Amboseli Game Reserve as a thank you for helping him out at such short notice (his usual travelling companion was ill and sadly couldn't go). Nairobi is very high up and I started suffering from altitude sickness within a day or so of arriving there (it's about the same height as Jo'burg, around 6000ft asl). We got the exhibition out of the way (easy peasy), and then we hired a minibus and driver to take us to Amboseli and be our guide for the long weekend. His name was Charles and his English was fortunately ...

Review of Amboseli National Park (Kenya)

New Zealand's majestic national park

Advantages: Pristine scenery, stunningly clear air,
Disadvantages: None really

of hopping on a ski lift and enjoying a day on the trails. You need to be helicopter lifted onto areas; popular is the Tasman Glacier and there are some other wild-outdoor areas to ski if you are extremely well experienced. So, it is obvious this beautiful, stunning, amazing 70,696 hectares park, in New Zealand is not for the faint hearted if you really want to explore the heart of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. Avalanches happen often, you can hear them sometimes, so don't venture out without a trained guide and all the safety gear you would expect in such a harsh, hostile environment. I read this on a website, but it's obvious once you've been there, that you must ,before you set out, go to the Deparment of Conservation Visitor centre to first learn about the area and to fill in the intention form before you set out. They will tell ...
