We stayed at Bonkers in January 2006.

We had great reviews of this hotel from friends, who had visited it before, purely because the restuarant is well known and was apparently amazing. It was also the cheapest hotel I could find that had very good reviews.

However the chef had changed as he got head hunted by a larger hotel, and when we were there I would say the food was good, but not what I think it had been previously. Somestimes the service was fast, and other times slow.

The rooms are pretty large but basic with bed, wardrobes and table and chairs. They do have good air con though. Same goes for the bathroom. There is quite a lot of storage space. Or you can pay more and stay in a room nearer the pool (but this also means nearer the restaurant = noise) and I think it has extra space and possibly a fridge. However for the amount of extra money I would not bother, the people who we met who were in one said they would not pay the extra if they went again.

The pool was small, and the most annoying thing was that it was nearly always in shade. But it was fine.

Reception were friendly and there is a dive centre on site.

We spent everyday going to the beach, either walking to Store Bay, which was a ten minute walk, or getting a taxi for ten minutes to Pigeon Point, where there toilets and showers, and many boat trips. We took one one day which was pretty cheap I think about £15,and they took us to the Nylon Pool on a glass bottom boat. We also got off the boat to snorkel.

Another day we went to Fishermans Bay, which was a bit dodgy as we had to rely on a taxi driver to pick us up, or we would have been left in the middle of nowhere! But it worked out fine.

The best restaurant we visited was a 5 minute walk down the road which is owned by an English woman, and its also a yoga retreat. The food is a set menu, is absolutely amazing and was £30 for the two of us, for 5 courses, and that included drinks and a tip. We were impressed! The hotel is in walking distance of several restautants.

We also went to 'Sunday School' one night. Personally I would not do this again, as its basically the locals drinking and getting stoned. The steel band was great, but that was it. We left after about an hour and a half.

If I went to Tobago again I would go to the Treehouse restaurant at the other end of the island because this has great reviews from friends, and from people we met on the island, but we ran out of time as we were only there for a week. I would also do a trip to the rainforest.

Overall I would recommend this hotel, especially if you are on a budget.
