The entrance to the city's best restaurant is in the 18th-century Florentine courtyard of the Grand Hôtel. The dining area is a series of salons, several of which face a winter garden and a reflecting pool. The gracious Maryse Toulousy, whose husband, Dominique, prepares modern and old-fashioned French cuisine, will greet you. A long-standing staple, developed by the owner and praised by gastronomes, is ravioli stuffed with foie gras of duckling and served with essence of truffles. Equally appealing are carpaccio of lobster served with foie gras; tartare of sturgeon, mushrooms, and oysters; sautéed pikeperch with a gratinated crust of shredded coconut, vanilla-flavored citrus sauce, and a chiffonade of fruits, vegetables, and truffles; and spicy breast of pigeon with a "surprise" preparation of the bird's organs decorated with rosettes of zucchini. One of the most appealing desserts is figs poached in red Banyuls wine, stuffed with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Advantages: Informative, fun exciting for all ages Disadvantages: trnaslator batteries, food prices, not enough time to see and do everything!
...A few years ago my mother-in-law bought a plot of land in the south of France with the intention of building a house to live in. That was the summer of 1998. That Christmas, my husband and I went to visit and we crammed as many wonderful places into our week holiday as possible. One place in particular was fascinating. This place was le city del’espace, Toulouse. (Space City for anyone not up on the French lingo!) It was a relatively new attraction when we visited – less than a year since first opening. It was a huge place with outdoor and indoor attractions.
As it was the middle of winter (and even the south of France has a winter!) we decided to get the outdoor bit over and done with first as it was very cold and windy although the sky was clear and blue and the sun was shining. There was plenty to see and do...

...C'est fantastique!!!
Imagine, a warm July evening. It's late and you find yourself outside a restaurant, looking at yet another menu. Some other 'foreigners', just leaving, recommend the place wholeheartedly, so you mount the stairs to the 'salon' on the first floor.
A warm welcome greets you and you are shown to a table, your only slight regret being that you weren't early enough to enjoy a table on the balcony. The decor is definitely 'fin de ciecle' and Colette and Toulouse Lautrec would have fitted in perfectly. The wallpaper of blowsy roses and gorgeous classical statuary is perfect. If you are into 'shabby chic', it's worth coming here just for some authentic inspiration!
The food was wonderful and I can honestly say that 'Eau de Folles' produces the most tender, succulent mussels to be found anywhere - no mean feat...
