Those of you who read my review on the Arc de Triomphe last week will know that I went to Paris last summer. One of the things that I picked up on whilst over there was the vast number of places that you could visit in order to get a fantastic panoramic view of the city. Of all the places that we visited it was La Tour Montparnasse that offered the greatest view of all; better than the Eiffel tower and without the queues! It is positioned about two miles south of the Eiffel tower.
La Tour Montparnasse is a 689ft tall skyscraper with an express lift which takes you to the top in a matter of seconds. It has 59 floors, 57 of which are used as office space but the other two are open to the public for viewing the city. You can even venture up onto the roof if you're brave enough, however this is not for the faint hearted, its extremely windy and quite unnerving. I went up there for a little bit but didn't really feel that safe - even though I was and decided to come back down to the protection of the viewing galleries where you are behind the glass windows.
We visited during the early evening at about 7.30pm and they had just turned the sparkling lights on over at the Eiffel tower, which was great. I really would recommend La Tour Montparnasse to anybody who visits Paris. It is only about ten euros per person and you can stay at the top for as long as you want. The views are the best in Paris and there is even a café at the top.

Sounds a great place to visit, I'd need a straight jacket to get up there as I hate heights!

I've been a few times to Paris but was not aware of this place. I'm not sure about using the cafe though (perhaps a stiff drink would help if they sell spirits).

Advantages: perfect city to be inspired by architecture, culture, shopping and fine cuisine Disadvantages: just too many tourists, hope this review wont bring too many extra ones
