The Tower of London is one of the most extraordinary and wonderful places to visit in London. Okay, so it's not all that cheap to get in (read futher on for prices), and there's a lot of walking to be done, but it's well worth the visit, and a very interesting day out. You'll need all day to visit this place as it is a very big place! There's the famous Yeoman of the Guards here, all dressed in their famous red, black and gold costumes to help and aid people on their journey. There's a gift shop that sells the usual things for tourists like mugs, teatowels, thimbles and toys etc. There's different departments in the grounds to visit like the crown jewels, all the monarchs who have reigned on the throne, right up to the present Queen and not forgetting the famous ravens. There are guided tours around the grounds if you wish, or you can go round at your own pace.

Where
~~~~~
The Tower of London is in Tower Hill, London, EC3. The nearest tube station is Tower Hill, and the nearest British Rail stations are Fenchurch Street and London Bridge Station.
Ghosts
~~~~~~
The Tower of London is one of the most famous buildings in the world. Anne Boleyn, one of Henry VIII wives, was beheaded on Tower Green in 1536. Her ghost has been seen regularly on the green and in the Chapel Royal in the White Tower.

The Ravens
~~~~~~~~~~
Legend has it that if the ravens should ever leave the Tower of London, the White Tower will crumble, and a great disaster will happen in Enland. There is also a raven master. His job is to look after and care for the ravens. His job is mainly at night where he puts them in their nesting sheds at the tower.
Crown Jewels
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The crown jewels ar also on view here. The Tower of London is their permanent home.

Thanks for an interesting op...gives lots of good information about a great place!

I agree that the Tower of London makes an excellent day out, but potential visitors should be aware of the spiral staircases in the buildings. My daughter has difficulty with this type of staircase and although she managed some areas, we had to give The Bloody Tower a miss altogether. Definitely not the easiest of places for the disabled I would imagine, but for the able-bodied (and those without spiral staircase phobias!) it is a fascinating day out.

Thanks for a very informative op. I've driven past it a couple of times, but never thought about going in. Maybe I'll go ghost hunting someday.... :)
