Land of Cicadas, Nitmiluk National Park, N.T. Australia

Advantages: Beatiful scenery, unspoilt and outback
Disadvantages: Very hot, very wet at certain times of the year, not easily accesible without transport

us a lot about how the Aboriginal people use the local plants. The silver leaved paperbark leaves can be boiled up and a poultice made for wounds, that liquid can also be drunk as a tea which is good for sore throats. This gorge is in Nitmiluk National Park which means Land of the Cicadas in the local Aboriginal dialect. EDITH FALLS: We continued in this National Park to Edith Falls where the pools were so full that no swimming was allowed and the falls were actually quite short - not too far to fall to the waterhole at all. This is a very popular swimming hole for the people of Darwin but when the pools are this full swimming is not allowed because crocodiles are then able to travel in to the pools via the swollen river. Once the rainy season is over and the pools are once again cut off from incoming rivers, they are checked for crocs ...

New Zealand's majestic national park

Advantages: Pristine scenery, stunningly clear air,
Disadvantages: None really

dollars/pounds then take a helicopter or fixed wing ride up to the Tasman Glacier, get out and have a walk around or ski the magnificence, hire a guide for a more indepth look at the environment, dine at the Hermitage or Glencoe Lodge for morning or afternoon tea or an evening meal with fine New Zealand food and wine. Be sure to pick up some local souviners for an Aoraki Mount Cook National Park memory. I think the memories you take away in your camera and your head will far out shine the souviners - but buy some anyway. Finally, my favourite part of this stunning national park is the view up to Mount Sefton - it is more prominent than the view of Mount Cook when you are in the village area. You peer in wonder at an amazingly steep faced mountain; huge, white, icy cliffs hang precariously off the side. Sometimes you hear bits crushing ...

Zion National Park..Hikers Heaven

Advantages: Breathtaking scenery, Friendly, Helpful Rangers.
Disadvantages: Weather unpredictable in Spring. Be Prepared!

We spent two days of our holiday in South West USA at Utah's Zion National Park and we couldn't have been more impressed with the parks facilities. It cost $20 per vehicle to enter the park, the pass is good for 7 days, and as I said in my Grand Canyon op, it could work out cheaper to buy a 12 month annual pass if you're planning to visit more than a couple of National Parks. Once inside there is a large car park and brand new visitors centre with plenty of information and facilities. Outside the visitors centre is the shuttle bus stop. The buses are free and run every 7 minutes. A round trip on the bus takes 90 minutes and there are plenty of places to get off and hike or site see and the next bus wont be far behind when you're ready to move on. The buses run from 5.30am to 11pm. At the Zion Lodge (about 5 stops in ...
