Over recent years, there has been an explosion in the number of new motel style hotels springing up around the country. Responding to a demand for lower price overnight accommodation, Whitbread Travel Inns are perhaps the best know chain, with over 250 motels now set up across the country. For £40.95 per night, you get a clean, modern double or family room, with your own bathroom and television. The hotels are normally situated adjacent to a family restaurant, so breakfast and evening meals are easily at hand - although not inclusive of the price.
Travel Inns are intended for those travellers who want a decent night's accommodation, but without the expense of a city centre hotel. They have advantages, and disadvantages, which you should bear in mind before you decide whether to use one of these establishments or not. I have stayed in a few different ones when I have been unable to find, or get, larger hotel accommodation.
Most Travel Inns are relatively new so the quality of accommodation tends to be very good. The rooms are a good size - particularly the family rooms - and are kept extremely clean. The beds are made up with continental quilts, rather than with sheets and blankets, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, and there are fold down sofa beds in the family rooms which you would need to make up for yourself, in the event that you want to use the additional space. There are additional pillows and blankets provided as necessary - the pillows are usually very unsubstantial, and you may need two or three per person.
The fixtures and fittings in the rooms vary from one inn to another, but are usually plain and uncomplicated. The bathrooms tend to be clean and tiled, but quite small - the baths are unsuitable for taller people, and the rooms rarely face onto windows. The disadvantage of this is that you always need to have the (noisy) extractor fans on when having a bath or shower. If you stay in a Travel Inn with more than one floor, the bathroom floor will vibrate with the noise from the extractor fan in the room below. Additionally, there is limited air conditioning in the rooms, and the windows will only open a fraction (for safety sakes). Consequentially, the rooms have a tendency to become stuffy very quickly.
In terms of extras, the Travel Inns keep things to a minimum, which is obviously reflected in the price. The rooms seldom have their own telephone - there are phone kiosks at reception, which charge payphone rates. You have your own small television, usually with the standard terrestrial Channels, and often with radio, which can be swivelled, but not moved completely. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided, but the rooms do not supply shampoo or bath foam, so make sure you take your own. I found the set up of the hotels quite frustrating in that if you want anything from reception, you have to leave the room and go yourself - no room service here. The bath towels were exceptionally small, and only one is put in the room, so couples or families will need to ask at reception for additional supplies (same thing will apply to extra tea or biscuits).
The quality of the meals varies from one Inn to another, as the type of restaurant can vary. There are about five or six different restaurants that you will find next to the Inn. The meals are averagely priced, as they tend to cater for the Beefeater type of client. The main drawback, is that they are all open to the public, so you can find it difficult to get a table at peal periods, and of a Friday and Saturday evening, you can expect them to be bustling with a weekend crowd of drinkers and eaters. Everything is pay as you go - as the restaurant operates independently from the hotel - and there is no facility to eat in your room. Consequentially, I think the weary traveller could find the whole set up unnecessarily tiring.
Service in the hotels is limited, but very friendly. Reception staff are keen to help, but are fighting a losing battle if you're already a bit teed off that you've had to wander down to reception yourself to get additional towels. The chain now state that they will refund the cost of the room if you are not 100% satisfied - a bold statement that backs up their intent, but I don't know how picky you are allowed to be. I was disturbed by the hallway doors banging every time somebody left their room and the sheer number of rooms in such a small space meant that other guests could be heard in the corridors relatively loudly.
The Travel Inns are a good concept - definitely suited to those people who wish to limit the cost of their accommodation. For me, if staying away I tend to prefer to spend time in my hotel room, relaxing, so room service is important, as well as good sized bathrooms. Larger hotels will not cram so many people in such a small space, so you tend not to be so aware of other guests. Travel Inns are particularly economical for families - the consequence being that the corridors tend to be awash with little feet running around. The Travel Inns do offer everything you want for a good night's sleep - but staying in a hotel is about so much more than just sleeping. Eating, relaxing and unwinding are all equally important if you're staying away - the Travel Inn doesn't look after these aspects enough for me.
Advantages: Economical, clean, modern and comfortable Disadvantages: Lack of facilities, no room service

Travel Inns are the best cheap hotel chain in the country. There are approx. 250 of them around Britain including ones in prime spots such as central London, the middle of Leeds and seaside towns like Blackpool and Brighton. A large proportion of the Inns have been built in the last 10 years and as a result are still shiny and new. However even with the older Inns the quality is consistently good. They are always clean and modern. The layout of the ... ...provide excellent food and the Travel Inn can reserve you a table if you want. Apart from the bedrooms in the Inns there is just a reception where the staff are always friendly and helpful. Travel Inns are best for one night stays as for a longer stay you may want a gym or a bar if you were staying longer but I think that they are such good value and so comfortable that you could stay much longer if you wanted to and save yourself a few quid at the ...

Advantages: None that were great Disadvantages: Not everyone got a bed.
. You can pau before or after you meal. You can choose from a wide range of starters, main meals, side orders, and deserts. The meals came hot, and as we wanted them. The staff in the resturant were helpful, friendly, and tried hard to help the guest. Every Thursday, one lucky table wins their meals for free.
The cost of a room for one night, was £30. This did not matter on the number of people staying in a room. I think the maximum is four. I think the price is good, and fair for what the TravelInn offers.
I would use again if I had to, but I may consider another hotel in the area. I found it a peacefull hotel, and was not below hotel standards. I did not think the hotel was fantastic but was a good place to stay, and had no major faults. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs somewhere to stay while travelling or in ...
Advantages: Renovated 19th building with character retained, Good room & breakfast, Helpful staff Disadvantages: My mattress was a bit too firm
I recently stayed at the Premier InnLiverpool Albert Dock while I was on a training course for work being held in the nearby BT Convention Centre. I normally discuss what led me to make a certain choice of hotel when I come to review them, but in this instance the choice was made for me by my department's budget holder - in other words, this was the cheapest hotel in the vicinity! This also means that I cannot comment directly on what the Premier Inn booking experience is like; I can, however, say the customer service people at their website are prompt to respond to emails and are very helpful, as I contacted them to confirm check-in details and got a friendly reply in less than 24 hours (which is good in my experience of such things). This was my first experience of staying in a Premier Inn hotel, and my only knowledge of them prior to ...
Advantages: value for money Disadvantages: this hotel does get busy
do and see in the area. Although we were visiting friends and they were showing us around the city, it was good to know the styaff were there if needed.
Across the small road is a pub called the Rocking Horse, here they serve food till 10pm and also do two meals for £10. The food was good and if travelling with children there is also a Wacky Warehouse attached.
Our room cost us £56per night (just under £30 each) which didnt include breakfast, this was cheap compared to some of the city centre hotels which were in excess of £100!
This hotel is only 5 miles from liverpool city centre and there is a railway staion arcoss the main road and also a bus stop outside if you came by car the hotel offer free car parking.
I would reccommend this hotel, in fact the chain of hotel, I would have no problem staying at another premier inn in the UK ...
