My partner and I stayed here earlier this month for one night prior to getting the Eurostar to Paris. The hotel is located a 5-10 minute drive away from Ashford train station, in a leisure park just off junction 9 of the M20.
We chose to stay at the Travelodge for four reasons:
- It was a special price of £29 for the room. - It wasn't far from the train station. - We knew it would be reliable as it's a well known hotel chain. - The were lots of places to eat within the leisure park.
We made our booking on the Travelodge website - www.travelodge.co.uk - and we paid in full by card online. Included in the special £29 price was a spacious ensuite family room which consisted of a king sized bed, sofa bed, bathroom with shower, a television, and a kettle with complimentary tea/coffee. Breakfast is available at an extra cost between 7-10am but we did not take up this option as we intended to get breakfast at the station.
Upon arriving in Ashford we took a taxi to the hotel which cost approximately £7. There is a free car park outside the hotel for those bringing their own car. The check-in process was very quick as we had already paid - we were simply asked for our name, whether we wanted breakfast, and then given the room key. I believe you can check in early or check out late for an additional charge but we did not require these. Normal check-in is from 3pm and normal check-out is before 12pm.
The room itself was very clean and basic - towels and linen are provided but you need to bring your own toiletries. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of lighting. I personally found the room quite spacious but then again there were only two of us staying in a 'family' room.
In the leisure park where the hotel is situated there is a Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Cineworld, Frankie & Bennys, and a Little Chef. There was also some building works going on but these did not bother us during our stay. Within the hotel I understand that there is a restaurant serving evening food and alcohol but we did not use this because we ate at Pizza Hut.
Overall this hotel is good value for money even if you don't get a special offer price like we did (I think the normal price is no dearer than £50 a night). With a hotel like Travelodge you know what you're getting - reliable basic accommodation suitable for anybody, whether it be a stop-off during a journey or a couple of nights to get away from it all.
