I've stayed in a few Travelodges over the years and I have a particular view of them. This Travelodge did not live up to that image, I was quite disappointed with this hotel. Bear in mind that I've stayed in Travelodges in Portsmouth, Milton Keynes, etc, Bath is a few steps up on the "posh" scale so I was expecting maybe slightly more of this Travelodge. Not the slightly less that I received.

My partner and I went to Bath Travelodge for three nights over Valentine's weekend. Just a slight distance from the train station, a taxi at night is needed but it's an easy walk in the daylight, straight through all of the shops. Even from the outside, this TL is unlike most others. There are no huge, glaring signs pointing it out to every passerby, in fact I think you could easily miss it. Being in the town centre there is no car park, which is fine if you've gone by train! I think I'd describe the outside as in keeping with the surroundings, huge TL signs would be out of place in Bath.

As you enter the hotel, aside from the very heavy door, there is a ramp all the way up to reception and through to the lift, making it wheelchair friendly. According to the sign at reception, the room rate was £76, we'd booked online a few months earlier for only £47 per night. A massive saving. Even at £70 a night, that's cheap for Bath. Directly next to the main entrance were lots of helpful tourist leaflets and despite all my planning of excursions to go on, I picked up the leaflets too.

We were tired so used the lift to go up two floors and I can only describe the lift as dodgy. The doors didn't like to close and the lift tried going up with the doors open. I didn't use it again. We found our room easily enough and my immediate impression was that it was the normal standard layout for any TL hotel. The furniture is identical in all of them! We had a double be dand a sofa bed. In other TL's I've slept on a mixture of both beds and they are all comfortable.

The windows were single glazed due to the outside appearance, but due to the February chill, the room was freezing when we got there and the heater took a while to heat it up. The staff could have put the heater on knowing that someone was in there that night.

There was a TV with the basic five channels, but the buttons didn't work so it was the remote control all the way and leaving it on standby overnight. I'm into green things and really find that a major downpoint to a hotel room. Next to the TV was a wardrobe that seemed to be missing doors or was built to not have them, which I don't quite understand. There were also only two accessible spare plugs in the room which didn't seem like enough for two people and a kettle!

In the bathroom there was a shower/bath and toilet with sink and huge mirror. There was that cool little note in the bathroom about putting dirty towels in the bath to get clean ones. That's a huge plus in my book. The floor, however, had problems. The laminate flooring was bumpy either from heat or improper laying. Then after having a shower, I needed my boyfriend to come in and turn it off as it was too stiff to click off. The shower also fluctuated slightly when using it, not from one extreme to another but slightly.

There were cleaners and fresh tea, coffee, milk and sugar every day, including Sunday and the check out was 12 noon on your last day. There are also warnings on the website and in the reception regarding noise late at night due to the close proximity of the clubs and restaurants (below and beside the hotel so very noisy) which was fine, what was annoying was the noise from the street cleaners at 0700 on the Sunday.

Next time, I'll be at a BandB. Cheaper, friendlier and prettier.
