Hilton Avisford Park, Arundel

Advantages: Superb location. Comfortable, relaxing hotel, steeped in history. Superb staff.
Disadvantages: Loud Christmas parties tended to conflict with the country hotel ethos!

We have just returned from a two-night stay at the (correctly-named) Avisford Park Hilton near Arundel on the south coast of England. Described by Hilton themselves as an hotel where ?You can live like a Baronet. After all, it was once the home of Baronet Montagu, Admiral and friend of Lord Nelson. Set in 89 acres of lovely gardens and parkland in England's south downs, Avisford park is as majestic now as it ever was?, we were really looking forward to our stay. It was the end of Amanda?s term at school and she really needed to be whisked away to somewhere peaceful. And that?s just what I did. On a cold, foggy December afternoon, Amanda, baby Josh and I all piled into the car and headed off for this seemingly delightful country retreat. The Journey ...was somewhat traumatic. The weather was against us and it took about 2 1 ...

The London Hilton on Park Lane - It's the Daddy!

Advantages: True five-star oasis of calm and comfort with a few tricks up its sleeve.
Disadvantages: It would be somewhat churlish to nit-pick. Read the review!

I have just returned, very happy, from the Hilton. I have often returned, happy, from a Hilton, but this has always been - and will always be - THE Hilton. The London Hilton on Park Lane has, always been "The Hilton" and this 28-storey icon is a London landmark that I have wanted to stay in for nigh on 30 years. This weekend, the dream came true. Nor was the bubble burst. Booking I booked on-line through the Hilton website and was offered a rate of just under UKP 128, plus taxes. The room-only room rate of UKP 150 (about $300) was something of a snip and it would have been rude not to accept it; it was about half of what you'd normally expect to fork out for a room in this hotel, which holds some quite extraordinary accolades, including "Best Business Hotel in Europe 2005" and "Daily Telegraph Best British Hotel 2002". I had ...

Hilton Hotel Avisford Park

Advantages: Spacious & quiet
Disadvantages: Poor food/facilities

My partner booked this hotel for 2 mid-week nights as a surprise treat for my birthday, she chose this location as it was near-by to the very beautiful Arundel and selected the Hilton as we had never stayed at one before but believed their name to be synomonous with "excellence". On first arriving our impressions were of a lovely old building that had retained all its original features, set in extensive well-maintained grounds (although most of it seemed to be a golf course) with sufficient parking for all. Check-in was friendly and quick before we were directed in the general direction of our room. As we turned into the corridor the first thing that hit us was the strong smell of chlorine permeating throughout, secondly was our ascension up three flights of stairs to our top floor room, laden down with our luggage this was quite ...
