My wife and I were going to a party and events weekend at Rosliston Forestry Centre and needed some accommodation close-by. We couldn't find a B&B that was happy for us to return in the early hours of the morning so decided that we would stay at the nearest hotel and get taxis to and from the party.
An internet search showed the Barton-Under-Needwood Travelodge as the closest and so I made a booking over the internet on the day of the party. The cost for a double room for one night was £50. An option came up for 'breakfast to go' at £5.65 each and I clicked to take up the option as cooked or buffet breakfasts were not available.
The booking procedure was straightforward and I received confirmation by email straightaway.
On arrival the receptionist was very welcoming and efficient and handed us our 'breakfasts to go'.
The room was tired but clean. The bed had seen better days and offered no support at all. The small TV only had terrestrial channels, not even freeview and there was no fridge.
The bathroom was last tiled 25 years ago by the looks of it and no shampoo or shower gel was supplied. One tiny bar of soap was all that was provided. Shower gel was available in a vending machine in reception. It was all a bit 'budget airline' in its approach.
Our 'breakfasts to go' consisted of sachets of cornflakes, a thin clear plastic bowl, cherry bar, hard biscuit, packet of UHT milk and the most revolting orange juice ever. There was of course no fridge to put these in which coupled with the roasting hot room all night made drinking the orange or milk even worse.
We paid for breakfast at the Little Chef next door as we couldn't face eating the Travelodge breakfasts. In fact we couldn't imagine any circumstances under which we would have eaten them.
We certainly won't be staying at this, or any other Travelodge again.
PS Taxi to Rosliston Forestry Centre was £14 each way. (Quoted by 2 taxi firms)
PPS We stupidly stayed at the northbound Travelodge. The southbound one is nearer to the Forestry Centre and the taxi fare is a couple of quid cheaper !
