Advantages: cheap, clean, comfortable, what you would expect Disadvantages: not that close to the airport, receptionist ignored us
A couple of weekends ago my boyfriend and I went to a wedding in Ireland. We were going to arrive late at night so I thought it was best if we stayed in a hotel near the airport on the night we arrived, and then go on to our final destination on the following morning.
I searched on Lastminute.com and found the ?TravelodgeDublinAirport Ballymun?. It was a 3* hotel and on lastminute cost a mere £41.52 for a double room, but the best part was that (I thought) it was close to the airport.
When we arrived it seems that there were no shuttle buses running to the hotel, so we jumped in a taxi thinking that the hotel wasn?t too far away.. then we started driving, and driving and driving. There are a lot of road works going on around Dublinairport so the taxi driver couldn?t take the closest exit to go to the hotel, so we ended up paying ?20 ...
Advantages: New build, price, high quality, service, location Disadvantages: Some airport noise
OVERVIEW
I had not heard of the Carlton hotel chain prior to my visit to Ireland in late 2006, but it turned out to be a brand new 4 star modern hotel and the cheapest of this hotel class in Dublin at the time of my booking. I had already had a bad experience with a previous hotel in Ireland and was anxious that I didn?t want this episode repeated, so I took the plunge and booked with the Carlton.
I was not disappointed and will be returning later this year. The hotel is ideal for short breaks, business meetings, people with an interest in aviation and families.
LOCATION
The hotel is located about 5 minutes drive from the main airport terminal. The hotel is new, it only opened about a year ago, it?s smart, modern and extremely competitively priced for hotels in this class, especially when using one of the many online ...
Advantages: None to speak of. Disadvantages: Dirty, noisy, no food, BAD location, creepy staff.....
Oh boy! Where to start.
We stayed here on the first night of a recent ski holiday. We wanted somewhere close to the airport and cheap as we picked up our hire car to head to Radium, BC, early the next morning. The hotel is not particularly close to the airport and is in a terrible location next to an industrial park. The only food in the area is from 'Boston Pizza' and is not particularly good and is definitely expensive for Canada.
Well, our room was small - the queen bed suspiciously so - didn't feel or look particularly clean was noisy and all in all pretty poor. Good job we 'only ' paid C$100 (£50) for the night! (See my review of the Fairmont in Calgary to see what onother C$30 gets you). I would not have wanted to eat here - even if food had been available. In the morning we even decided to leave without showering because ...
