If you fancy a weekend in Dublin you're certainly going to need plenty of money for your food and drink because it ranks highly in the list of the more expensive cities to visit - this is precisely the reason myself and my girlfriend opted for the Travelodge in Castlenock which is approximately 20 minutes bus journey from the centre of Dublin.
Don't be put off from staying at this hotel because of the distance issues - the bus services in Ireland are so much more regular and reliable than those we find in the UK and we didn't have to wait longer than ten minutes on any occasion for a bus. The stop is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel on a busy main road and it is advisable to have the correct fare (1.60 Euro) in coins for the machine because the drivers do not give change!
The hotel itself is set in pretty grounds well away from the road and looks very inviting from the outside. Inside the hotel the decoration is adequate although it looks a little bit tired and could do with sprucing up, and maybe a lick of paint here and there, but on the whole is quite acceptable especially for the money one pays for a room - roughly 35 pounds per night; a price you would NEVER find anywhere in Dublin City Centre.
The member of staff who checked us into the hotel was very friendly and more than happy to explain the bus services and directions to us and we were very happy with the service provided.
While no room service was available, there is a restaurant or rather a kind of burger joint ajacent to the hotel - we ate there once and had no complaints with either the food or the price.
As I mentioned before, Ireland is not a cheap city to visit with a pint of Guinness costing over 3 pounds and we found this hotel a God-send in helping us to keep the price of our trip to a minimum.
If you dont mind paying over the odds for City Centre accomodation then you'll find getting back to your hotel more convenient however at the end of our weekend in Dublin we were glad we chose the Travelodge Dublin Castlenock for good, clean accomodation at a budget price.
