We have just returned from a short break in Edinburgh with our two young children (age 6 and 4) and have had a good experience staying in a family room at the city centre travellodge. We travelled to Edinburgh by train so were pleased to discover the hotel is only a short walk from the station (about 10 minutes). It is really well located just off the Royal Mile and therefore located close to many of Edinburghs main attractions. It is uphill from the station but we did notice a bus stop opposite so it is probably possible to get a bus up from the new town.
Booking We booked on-line and paid a total of £136 which was taken from credit card on booking. You receive a reference with which you can cancel up to 12 midday on booked day
Check - in Officially check in is from 3pm, however we arrived at 1pm in the hope we could leave our luggage. We were met by a very friendly receptionist who checked the availability of the family rooms and allowed us access to a room straight away.
Rooms These were of a reasonable quality for the price paid. A king size bed, a sofa bed with a pull out trolley bed to accommodate a family of 4. Towels were present - 2 bath sheets and 2 hand towels. The bathroom had a bath and shower but no toiletries other than a small bar of soap, however it was all very clean. There was a kettle but no hairdryer - so do take your own. The TV received the main 4 channels with a facility to pay £6 a day for various movies. Everything in the room worked and we had no cause to complain
Food and drink Breakfast was available at a price of £7.50 per adult (kids eat free). A good choice was on offer of cereals, fruit, yoghurts, croissants, toast and a cooked breakfast of the usual basics (bacon, sausage, egg etc) Breakfast was available from 7-10am weekdays and 8-11am weekends. A cafe menu was also available and we used this one night as it was raining and the kids were tired. It was a rather limited menu - fish and chips, steak and chips, steak and ale pie, sausage and mash etc all at reasonable prices (approx £6-95 to £8-95) and was of average standard but certainly edible though would only reccomend this if you really can't be bothered to go out to eat. Strangely for such a family type hotel they don't have a childrens menu although they did give us an extra plate to split one portion - luckily the children managed to agree on the same dish.
Down side The noise! We were on the road side and the traffic was constant all night! I imagine the other side would be quieter and suggest if, like us, you have young family and are not going to be out with the revellers you ask for a room on the other side, however we heard no noise from other rooms or the hotel corridor
Would definately stay again
