I love travel lodges. They give you just what you need at a very reasonable price but I had only ever used them in London and had never stayed at the one at Lincoln before.

I turned up expecting a nice nonsmoking room because when we ordered a room you have to tick if you wanted a smoking room and my partner had specifically not done so. However after hours of travelling and arriving at the hotel we were told there were no other rooms ... ...in advance.
It was disgusting. It was dirty. It stank. In the corridor I could smell people smoking drugs in their rooms. I felt like I was choking when I lay down and try to sleep. I felt like I couldn't breath. We opened the windows and left the extractor fan on in the bathroom but it was still hideous. I turned up expecting a nice nonsmoking room because when we ordered a room you have to tick if you wanted a smoking room and my partner had specifically not done so. However after hours of travelling and arriving at the hotel we were told there were no other rooms left other than a smoking, despite our booking our room in advance.

We queried it and were told to check our booking. We did when we got home and it turned out that the website had booked us into a smoking room despite us not ticking the smoking box.
So I really wanted to warn people to check and triple check when you make your booking with travel lodge. Just because you have chosen a nonsmoking room, that doesn't necessarily mean that is what you will get.
When you then click through on the second page of the booking form it states your booking eg one non-smoking family room and then it says underneath it "This room is available". If you then click and book but miss the part underneath that actually gives you a totally different room to the one you booked you could end up in a room like ours and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
Whenever we try to go away somewhere for a 'cheap' break we always check out the travel lodges and Holiday Inn's first to see what offers they have because we like the fact that you always know what you're getting with them. You know they're not going to be fancy with special additions like in other hotels but you know that they will be of a certain standard and will at least be clean.
Mrs B and I decided we would try the Travel Lodge outside of Lincoln. We were going back to our old haunt Lincoln to celebrate another of our anniversaries and remember the place we met but since Baby B had arrived we had a little bit less money to splash out on somewhere more exotic.
Location
This travel lodge is not central to Lincoln. It isn't even a walk away. It is 5 miles south of Lincoln centre on the a46 which is a very busy road ...
