I stayed here in November having booked online for £15. This was through the chain's early booking offer and I managed to upgrade from a double room to a family room for this price.
This included a sofa, double bed, ensuite, TV, kettle. The room was adequate for what you would expect from budget accommodation - clean and well presented.
However, my criticisms aren't of the room. We arrived at the hotel at 2.50pm and were informed we couldn't check in until 3.00. My boyfriend was sat outside in the car at this point because we wanted to find out about car parking before leaving the car - which I will come back to.
So, we had to drive around in circles for 10 minutes before getting back to check in and finding a large queue at the check in desk as it seemed that everybody else who was staying that night had turned up at the same time, there was only one person on the reception desk and she appeared to be getting flustered. I understand that it is Travelodge policy to have a 3.00 check in unless you pay extra, but they must then be able to cope if a lot of people turn up at once wanting to check in.
When I asked about the car park I was informed that the council owned car park opposite the hotel was able to be used by guests, but it was £5 for up to 24 hours, which needed topping up at 7.30am. This meant we had to get up, along with at least 10 other guests from the hotel before 7.30 when we were supposed to be having a relaxing break to ensure the car wasn't clamped.
I know that car parking in city centres is big money, but the hotel would benefit greatly from striking a deal with Liverpool council to allow hotel guests to pay for 48 hours etc as the last thing people want when they are having a holiday is to be worrying about what time they are going to have to get up in the morning.
Having returned to bed for a while after this, we were then woken by the cleaners trying to get into the room an hour later.
The hotel's location was ideal for walking into the city centre and was opposite the World Museum which is well worth a visit. However, if you are looking for a bit of comfort on your trip to Liverpool, I would recommend paying that little bit extra.
Advantages: Central Location Disadvantages: No Parking
This is a large, impersonal hotel right in the centre of Liverpool and walking distance to shops and nightlife and close to buses and trains. This hotel is a typical Travelodge, but rooms are of a reasonable size and clean with all the usual tea/coffee facilities and TV. The reception area has a few vending machines for late night snacks (and a greasy spoon cafe for a morning fry up next door). We found the staff to be helpful and able to provide ... ...reason why I would recommend this hotel to anyone is for its prime location which is one road away from some of the livelier parts of the city's nightlife, two minutes from the shops and ten minutes walk to Albert Dock. If you are looking for a hotel that offers something more than a comfortable base for the night then I am sure you will be well served elsewhere!
The main disadvantage is that there is no car parking, but there is a small car park ...
